The global security firm and employer of the man who killed at least 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando has said it is "shocked and saddened" by the mass murder and is working with law enforcement.

Omar Mateen worked with private security group G4S Secure Solutions as a private security officer in Florida. The role requires 28 hours of classroom training by a licensed instructor.

Officials said he had two firearms licenses, a security officer license and a statewide firearms license, all expiring in September 2017.

A statement from G4S, the firm that managed security for the London Olympics in 2012, read: "We are shocked and saddened by the tragic even that occurred at the Orlando nightclub. We can confirm that Omar Mateen had been employed with G4S since Sept 10 2007. We are cooperating fully with all law enforcement authorities, including the FBI, as they conduct their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the friends, families, and people affected by this unspeakable tragedy."

They have provided security personnel for the Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection at the US-Mexico border, and helped transport undocumented immigrants from urban areas.

50 people have been killed and 53 people were injured in the mass shooting on Saturday evening at the Pulse Orlando nightclub.

Twenty minutes into the attack, the 29-year-old shooter called 911 and pledged allegiance to Islamic State.

Orlando shooter worked for G4S (aka / formerly Wackenhut) 12.Jun.2016 14:01

The Orlando nightclub shooter worked for G4S, one of the world's largest security companies, according to multiple news reports. WPBF, a TV station in Palm Beach County, Fla., where the company is based, quoted a statement  link to www.wpbf.com issued by G4S that said Omar Mateen had worked for the company since Sept. 10, 2007. "We are cooperating fully with all law enforcement authorities, including the FBI, as they conduct their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the friends, families and people affected by this unspeakable tragedy," the statement said in part.

G4S, formerly known as Wackenhut, was a major security provider at the government facilities in Oak Ridge until it lost its contracts in the wake of the 2012 break-in by protesters at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant. Mateen reportedly lived in Fort Pierce, Fla., and there is no indication he was ever involved in any Oak Ridge-related activities.

Wackenhut provided security at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge facilities, beginning in 2000. Its security contract at Y-12 was terminated  link to www.knoxnews.com after the security breach, and B&W Y-12 — the managing contractor at the time — absorbed the security duties as part of its work.

G4S/Wackenhut also lost its contract  link to www.knoxnews.com to provide security at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Oak Ridge Federal Building in 2013 when DOE awarded the job to National Strategic Protective Services.

G4S: World's Largest Security Contractor 12.Jun.2016 14:20

G4S plc (formerly Group 4 Securicor) is a British multinational security services company headquartered in central London.[3] It is the world's largest security company measured by revenues and has operations in around 125 countries.[2][4] With over 620,000 employees, it is world's second largest private employer, and the largest on the London Stock Exchange.

G4S has its origins in a guarding business founded in Copenhagen in 1901 by Marius Hogrefe, originally known as København Frederiksberg Nattevagt (which translates as Copenhagen and Frederiksberg Night Watch) and subsequently renamed Falck.[5] In 2000 Group 4, a security firm formed in the 1960s, merged with Falck to form Group 4 Falck[5] and by 2000 the company was described as "the world's largest private security systems company".[6] In 2002 Group 4 Falck went on to buy The Wackenhut Corporation in the USA.[7]

A former Fort Pierce Police officer who once worked with Omar Mateen at PGA Village said Mateen was "unhinged and unstable."

Daniel Gilroy said he worked the 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift with G4S Security at the south gate at PGA Village for several months in 2014-15. Mateen took over from him for a 3 to 11 p.m. shift.

Gilroy, a former Fort Pierce Police officer, said Mateen frequently made homophobic and racial comments. Gilroy said he complained to his employer G4S Security several times but it did nothing because he was Muslim. Gilroy quit after he said Mateen began stalking him via multiple text messages — 20 or 30 a day. He also sent Gilroy 13 to 15 phone messages a day, he said.

"I quit because everything he said was toxic," Gilroy said Sunday, "and the company wouldn't do anything. This guy was unhinged and unstable. He talked of killing people."

Gilroy said this shooting didn't come as a surprise to him.

PGA Village resident Eleanora Dorsi, however, recognized Mateen's face as a friendly one who guarded her gated community in western Port St. Lucie.

"Whenever I saw him, he was very polite," Dorsi said Sunday from her summer home in Connecticut. "He was always a gentleman."

Dorsi, who lhas ived in the community since 2011, estimatesdshe saw Mateen a dozen times through the years, but he left a big impression on her because of his chivalry, she said.

"He even helped me with the car once, so I can't say he was creepy," she said.

Mateen helped her work the windshield cleaning function in her new car one time, she said.

Dorsi frequently gave Mateen and other guards at PGA Village pizza, cookies and candy for their hard work, she said. The last time she saw Mateen was a year ago, Dorsi said.

"He was always smiling and just seemed like a very nice, positive person," Dorsi said.

It sent chills down Dorsi's spine to imagine the man charged with keeping her and other locals safe carried out the deadliest mass shooting in the nation's history, she said.

"You would never ever think that he would have done anything like this," Dorsi said.

"Scary, scary. Very scary. I think everyone feels like that right now," she added. "It hits too close to home."

by "they" did you happen mean G4S —
the world's largest security contractor?

because one of their long time employees just did a number on hundreds of innocent lives in Orlando, Florida.

and neither the US corporate mass media or the G4S USA organization, have a whole heck of a lot to say about the exact nature of Omar Mateen's employment and/or associated training-expertise with G4S during his tenure there.

i.e. he wasn't merely a rote security guard on afternoon shifts at the (PGA Village) golf resort in Ft. Pierce.

^ That was not the sum total of his professional (or covert?) existence, with G4S or otherwise.

( yeah yeah, we all know he 'hated gays' and also tweeted/iPhoned 'Viva ISIS!' or similar just prior to getting bumped off by SWAT.... but I'm talking about the. Think Mohamed Atta and his Islamic-fundamentalist buds hanging out at the strip joints — coincidentally here, also in FL — feasting on prohibited food + beverage etc. Food for thought, as it were...... )

G4S = employer of the Orlando nightclub mass murderer

what we need is.. 14.Jun.2016 11:44

common sense gun reform, like background checks... ooops never mind.

ok, what we need is to close the gun show loop hole... What? there is no such thing? oops. never mind.

Ok, we need to ban assault rifles because he killed 49 people in 3 hours. What? Thats one person every 3 1/2 minutes? He could have used a flintlock and killed more.. oops never mind..

What we really need is to examine the Utopian nonsense of "gun free" zones. Gun Free zones (which are only gun free until they aren't) are whackaloon magnets, like this nightclub. predators hunt in target rich environments where the risk of injury is very low.

Nobody ever shoots up an NRA convention do they? Why is that?

Orlando Gunman Worked For Security Firm With Homeland Security Ties 14.Jun.2016 19:07

Mateen was a 29-year-old American-born Muslim who worked as a security guard in Florida. FBI officials said they had investigated him in 2013 and 2014 on suspicion of terrorist sympathies but could not make a case against him.

Mateen had been employed at the G4S company, which has clients in more than 100 countries and identifies itself on its website as "the leading global integrated security company." He "was subject to detailed company screening" when he was recruited in 2007 and "re-screened in 2013 with no adverse findings", according to a company statement.

In addition to security solutions firm AMAG Technology in Torrance, G4S has 16 offices located in California, including locations in Los Angeles, Anaheim, Cypress, and Westlake Village.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, G4S was "consistently one of the biggest contractors with the U.S. federal government after the September 11 terrorist attacks", primarily with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the State Department. In 2015, G4S contracts with the U.S. government dropped to just over $89 million, Bloomberg reported.

G4S Regional CEO for North America John Kenning issued a statement Sunday saying Mateen was "not on duty at the time" of the shooting.

The FBI has not said whether the agency notified G4S about its investigations, according to Bloomberg.

Orlando Shooter Wasn’t the First Murderer Employed By Global Mercenary Firm 19.Jun.2016 14:50

Alex Emmons June 14 2016, 10:44 a.m.

The man who shot over 100 people and killed 49 in an Orlando nightclub Saturday worked at a retirement home as a security guard for G4S - a giant, often controversial global contracting corporation that provides mercenary forces, prison guards and security services. G4S is one of the world's largest private security companies, with more than 620,000 employees and a presence in over 100 countries.

G4S confirmed in a statement that Omar Mateen had worked for the company since 2007, and said it was "shocked and saddened" by the shooting. A later statement said that Mateen was subject to "detailed company screening" in 2007 and again in 2013, "with no adverse findings."

But one of Mateen's former coworkers told the New York Times that he "saw it coming," that Mateen "talked about killing people all the time," and that he was "always angry, sweating, just angry at the world."

The coworker, who said he quit his job due to harassment from Mateen, explained that he "complained multiple times" to G4S, because Mateen didn't like "blacks, women, lesbians, and Jews."

Yet G4S continued to employ Mateen, who was able to obtain a "security officer" license to buy firearms in addition to his state license and conceal carry permit.

Mateen was even allowed to work at G4S while under FBI investigation. According to the FBI, Mateen was suspected of involvement in terror in 2013. The FBI investigation included the use of paid informants, recording conversations, following him, electronic surveillance, and interviewing him three times, FBI Director James Comey said on Monday. The investigation was closed because it produced no hard evidence of terrorist complicity.

G4S's statement says that Mateen was subject to "checks from a U.S. law enforcement agency with no findings reported to G4S." But according to the New York Times, the investigation took place because of "reports from [Mateen's] coworkers, that he... suggested he may have had terrorist ties."

G4S has previously been accused of improperly vetting its employees. In 2009, Danny Fitzsimons, a former British paratrooper and employee of a G4S subsidiary, killed two colleagues in Iraq, claiming to be "the antichrist" and saying he "must satisfy" his "bloodlust." An official investigation concluded that his employer did not properly vet his psychological health.

In 2007, G4S signed contracts with five Israeli prisons and "interrogation centers," leading to accusations that it was complicit in torture and the imprisonment of children. In 2010, three G4S security guards killed an Angolan national during a deportation flight from the U.K., by restraining him in an asphyxiating position.

In January, five G4S officers were arrested after a BBC expose revealed systematic abuse and neglect at a G4S-run youth jails.

G4S has also become a focal point for the Israel-focused Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement over its partnerships with Israeli prisons and military checkpoints. Activist pressure has led to divestment from the company by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Methodist Church, and UNICEF in Jordan. G4S has since announced that it would end its Israeli prison contracts.

In 2002, G4S acquired the United States-based Wackenhut Corporation, a private security and prison contractor with a deeply troubled history, including the widespread sexual assault of inmates at a Texas detention center in 1999.

Wackenhut went on to win a contract to guard the U.S. Embassy at Kabul, worth $189 million over five years. In 2009, the Project on Government Oversight sent a letter to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with photographic evidence that embassy guards had created a "Lord of the Flies environment," at the embassy, said to include guards and supervisors "peeing on people, eating potato chips out of [buttock] cracks, vodka shots out of [buttock] cracks... [drunken] brawls, threats and intimidation from those leaders participating in this activity."

Nevertheless, Wackenhut was hired by the U.S. government and BP in 2010 to manage perimeter security for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on the Gulf Coast.

In 2011, G4S won a contract to provide security for the 2012 London Olympics - only to overcharge the British government and provide understaffed security.

On the news that Mateen worked for G4S, the company's stock dropped 6.6 percent, wiping out $280 million in company value.

Terrorism and G4S: Was Orlando Another False Flag? 19.Jun.2016 18:17

Kevin Ryan

As with most terrorist suspects in the U.S., Omar Mateen had been closely followed by the FBI. He also worked for a company suspected of engaging in prior terrorist events.

Mateen was well known to the FBI. In fact the Bureau had interviewed him several times and had evaluated his potential for terrorism on at least three occasions. This fact is noteworthy considering that both before 9/11, and since then, FBI leaders appear to have facilitated or manufactured terrorist acts.

Although U.S. authorities claim that Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS "in the midst of the attack," Mateen's family were surprised at the claim that he had any connection to a radical terrorist group. In fact, they said he was not particularly religious.

Some have wondered why Mateen posed in several selfies wearing clothes bearing the insignias of the New York Police Department (NYPD). Although the NYPD has denied any relation to the shooter, Mateen's employer, G4S, has some interesting links to previous terrorist events. And it benefits from terrorism.

Mateen worked for the British company G4S since 2007. Throughout that time, G4S has been what people might call a private, special operations military outfit. It is said to be three times the size of the British military. In 2012, a G4S employee was charged with making a bomb threat at the Olympics. Similar bomb threats were connected to G4S in 2013 and May 2016.

Previously called Securicor, G4S provided security at all three airports affected by the 9/11 attacks. Securicor/G4S had bought Argenbright Security—the 9/11 airport security firm—just nine months before the 9/11 attacks. The company later ran operations at Guantanamo Bay.

These facts suggest that all aspects of the attack, including initial reports of two suspects in the shootings and that someone was holding the door closed to prevent people from escaping, should be carefully investigated. Given the connections between Mateen and his employer to terrorism, it would be wise to consider the possibility that the Orlando shooting was more than a simple lone wolf attack.
