'The Wire' actor Wendell Pierce arrested, charged with battery for attacking Bernie Sanders supporters in Atlanta hotel

Wendell Pierce, star of HBO's The Wire was taken into custody late Saturday after allegedly attacking two Bernie Sanders supporters.
According to TMZ, the actor — who recently starred as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in HBO's Confirmation — ran into a woman and a man at 3:30AM and struck up a conversation that turned to politics.
Pierce, a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter, reportedly became enraged when he learned the couple were supporters of Bernie Sanders.
The actor is accused of shoving the man then grabbing the woman by her hair before slapping her.
The couple retreated to their room at the hotel where they called security who contacted the police.
Pierce — who is in Atlanta to film a movie — was arrested and booked for battery before posting a $1,000 bond and being released.

Sources at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta tell us the actor struck up a convo with the woman and her boyfriend at around 3:30 AM. The talk turned political and Wendell -- a big Hillary Clinton supporter -- got upset when the woman declared her support for Bernie.
We're told Wendell -- who played Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the HBO drama, "Confirmation" -- became enraged, pushed the boyfriend and then went after his girlfriend ... grabbing her hair and smacking her in the head.
Our source says the girl and her boyfriend went to their room and called hotel security, who then called cops. Pierce was arrested and booked for battery. He posted $1,000 bond and was released.
