"Scoundrels That We Are," is a FREE album, and listeners, social justice organizations, and activists are encouraged to download it and use the songs! Solidarity!
To the delight of clock-punchers, sleepy-eyed wage slaves, and rabble-rousing folk fans everywhere, Eugene, Oregon's "working class folk" duo Monday Morning Denial has released their first recording-a five song EP titled, "Scoundrels That We Are." The EP explores topics such as 19th century anarchism, the Great Depression, fishing, gentle parenting, and the founding of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), and it showcases the lyrical abilities and social concerns of husband-and-wife duo Kate Downing and Nathan Moore. Impressively, Downing and Moore recorded "Scoundrels That We Are" in a bedroom with literally no budget while somehow managing to work three jobs between them, raise a small human, and retain their title of "Eugene's First Family of Folk." True to their egalitarian values, Monday Morning Denial has released the EP as free digital download, available on Bandcamp, an online music site that provides a platform for independent artists. The duo is currently lining up performances for winter and spring 2016, including a "May Day Solidarity Festival." Locations and times of upcoming show will be listed on the Monday Morning Denial website.

More about the band:

Since 2007, Kate and Nathan have been the main songwriters in the "underdog folk" band Low Tide Drifters. Avowedly working-class in allegiance and radical in their politics, they craft songs that champion the struggles of everyday people to make the world a better place. They have performed everywhere from folk festivals union halls, released two full-length albums, and their songs have gained national and international radio airplay. As activist-musicians, they have also performed at numerous fundraisers for labor unions, human rights groups, and other community-based organizations.

In 2015, Kate and Nathan began performing as Monday Morning Denial. Their shows are infused with humorous storytelling, rabble-rousing politics, and catchy choruses. With little patience for the self-indulgent navel-gazing and instrumental noodling that pervades contemporary acoustic music, Monday Morning Denial creates down-to-earth songs rooted in the real-life experiences of working people. Whether singing about the labor movement, radical history, parenthood, or any number of other subjects, Kate and Nathan believe that folk music should always put forth the question that Florence Reece so poetically asked in 1931 when she penned her classic labor song-that is, "Which Side Are You On?"
