"A darker picture emerged Friday of slain Umpqua Community College shooter Chris Harper-Mercer as a deeply troubled, anti-religion, anti-government recluse obsessed with guns.

"The U.S. Army discharged him just five weeks into basic training in 2008. Records indicate he graduated in 2009 from a high school catering to troubled and special-needs students. Multiple media sources reported Friday he left behind an angry note that is now in the hands of investigators.

"The Los Angeles Times said Harper-Mercer's note was several pages long and talked about his anger and depression.

"Sofia Camarena of Long Beach, California, told The Oregonian/OregonLive that she used to date Harper-Mercer's father."I used to change Chris' diapers when he was a baby," she said, upset after learning that he was the shooter in Thursday's massacre and was himself dead. "He was born with problems. He was hard to discipline. If you told him 'no,' he would scream like you had just hit him."

"Camarena said that she had heard Harper-Mercer's mother was having "a hard time" with him and that he attended a special school.
"A neighbor told The New York Times that Harper-Mercer's mother had told a neighbor, "My son is dealing with some mental issues," and was intolerant of roaches that had infested the building.

"Witnesses said Harper-Mercer singled out the religious during the shooting. He reportedly asked students and staff their religion and shot those who answered they were Christians.

"The U.S. Army confirmed Friday it discharged Harper-Mercer just halfway through his 10 weeks of basic training in 2008. "A review of Army records indicate that Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer was in service at Ft. Jackson, S.C., from 5 November-11 December 2008 but discharged for failing to meet the minimum administrative standards to serve in the U.S. Army," said Lt. Col. Ben Garrett.

"Garrett declined to elaborate on what those "minimum administrative standards" were.

But more to the point :

with this obvious 'troubled' / developmentally disadvantaged individual who further isolated himself from society as he grew older,

precisely what does the Federal (or State of Oregon) call for "better gun control" have to do with that?

Was Intolerant Of Roaches That Had Infested The Building 03.Oct.2015 07:25

That is the total significance of this "story".

drugs, etc. 06.Oct.2015 13:03

His mom gave him guns galore from the time he was a little kid. Even though he was diagnosed as autistic and was taking prescribed drugs. Yet another mass shooter on psychotropic chemicals! Of course CNN doesn't really delve into this. Maybe because their sponsors are 90% Big Pharm. The mom says she too is autistic and a nurse to boot, so she considers herself an expert on the disease, and saw no reason not to get her child into firearms at an early age, taking him to ranges to shoot. GO FIGURE!! You can't really blame the guns for this one. A combination of insane mother and psychotropics and a deadly arsenal came together in a perfect storm. And the nutty sheriff, hinting that it was an inside job, just added more craziness to an already numbing situation. Plus CNN doctored the photo of the shooter, who is bi-racially black and white, so that he looks as white as a sheet, when in reality he looks like a Black man. They even narrowed his nose! Why? Are they afraid to contradict their initial reports that the guy was a White supremacist? Afraid of retaliation against Blacks? This guy definitely did not fit any known profile because he wasn't a medicated racist white guy with a gun fetish and urge to kill. He was a medicated Black autistic guy with a gun fetish and an urge for slaughter. How politically incorrect can you get?

rAT: "sheriff, hinting that it was an inside job" 06.Oct.2015 18:51

Your source for this claim?

you talking, about the Douglas County sheriff who was in command of the primary local law enforcement entity handling the matter?

Furthermore what is "inside job" supposed to mean, with reference to a school (community college) shooting?

Define, back up, put up or stfu.

Not Worth The Trouble 06.Oct.2015 19:26

If there were real friends and relatives of victims, then I feel sorry for them. If it was just another psyop, then we should ignore it.

Start worrying about tree branches. Look up. Notice that widowmaker tree branch is about to fall on your head? That is what you should really be worrying about.

Hate-filled Chris Harper Mercer had white supremacy leanings, says LA Times 06.Oct.2015 23:17

<h1>Gun-obsessed, timid and his mom called him 'baby': What we know of Chris Harper-Mercer's life</h1>
<p>by LA Times, October 15th, 2015 (Muskal reported from Los Angeles, Gerber and Los Angeles Times staff writer Matt Pearce from Oregon, and Serrano from Washington.)</p>
<p><a href=" link to www.latimes.com </p>

<p>"Chris Harper-Mercer has been identified by law enforcement officials as the gunman who opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore. Here's what we know about him:</p>

<p>He was from Southern California:</p>

<p>"Harper-Mercer, 26, was a resident of Winchester, Ore., according to the Douglas County Medical Examiner, but he and his mother, a nurse, had moved there from Torrance, Calif. His father, Ian Mercer, lives in Tarzana...he attended El Camino College from 2010 to 2012, according to Ann Garten, a spokesman for the community college. He was not involved in any incidents during his time there, she said. It is unclear whether he earned a degree.</p>

<h2>He had white-supremacy leanings and was obsessed with guns, according to one official. </h2>

<p>Officials have said the gunman's motive was not clear. Two federal law enforcement source familiar with the investigation said, though, that authorities had obtained some of Harper-Mercer's writings, as well as a note he left behind, suggesting that he opposed organized religion and <b>supported white-supremacist causes.</b> However, he identified as mixed-race on a dating website and lived with his black mother. He also liked to discuss military history, according to an official.</p>

<p>In 2011, he signed up on the website Mashable, < http://mashable.com/people/4eb578835198402b59000149/> using a Facebook account that has been taken down. According to Mashable, his Facebook profile included "a reference to Nazi Germany" and had a quotation: "When all the pleasures of the world have diluted, the only thing left that is pure is power."</p>

<p>Six weapons were recovered from the scene of the shooting, officials said at a news conference Friday, and eight guns were found at Harper-Mercer's apartment. All 14 weapons were legally purchased, they added.</p>

<p>A former neighbor in Torrance, David Westly, 45, recalled that Harper-Mercer was once asked at a community barbecue whether he owned any guns. He deflected the question but acknowledged that he liked to practice target shooting, Westly said.</p>

<h2>He joined the Army, but left after a month</h2>

<p>A review of Army records indicates that Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer was in the service at Ft. Jackson, S.C., from Nov. 5 to Dec. 11, 2008. He flunked basic training and was discharged for failing to meet the "minimum administrative standards to serve."</p>
He struggled with mental health issues for years and attended a special needs school</p>

<p>A law enforcement source said investigators have learned Mercer had long struggled with mental health issues, beginning when he was a teenager.</p>

<p>He was among five students listed in the graduating class at Switzer Learning Center, according to a special graduation section published by the Torrance-based newspaper, the Daily Breeze, in 2009. The Switzer Learning Center, also in Torrance, teaches students with special needs, emotional difficulties, autism and Asperger's syndrome.</p>
<p>According to its website, the school "has a long history of working with children who have been unsuccessful in traditional classrooms."</p>

<p>In online postings, Harper-Mercer's mother said her son had Asperger's syndrome, which can severely limit social development and spark emotional meltdowns, but was not associated with predatory behavior."</p>

<h1>Report: Oregon Shooter Had White Supremacist Leanings</h1></p>

<a href=" link to talkingpointsmemo.com

<p>"The 26-year-old gunman who massacred at least nine people Thursday at Oregon's Umpqua Community College reportedly had white supremacist leanings.</p>

<p>The Los Angeles Times reported Friday, based on information from an anonymous federal law enforcement source familiar with the investigation, that the shooter was obsessed with guns and religion and had white supremacist leanings.</p>

<p>Douglas County, Oregon Sheriff John Hanlin said Thursday that he would not glorify the gunman by releasing his name and urged the media to follow his example. But the Times and other news outlets, including The Associated Press, have identified the gunman as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer based on information from anonymous federal law enforcement sources and government officials.</p>

<p>The gunman also reportedly used an email address that invoked a symbol with connections to neo-Nazis and white supremacist groups. The Guardian found via a public records search that the email address " ironcross45@gmail.com" was associated with a Chris Harper Mercer of Winchester, Oregon. The Anti-Defamation League notes that those groups adopted the Iron Cross, a German military medal, as a hate symbol by superimposing a swastika on the traditional medal.</p>

<p>The username on an online dating profile that appears to belong to the gunman is also "ironcross45." Notably, that user lists his ethnicity as "mixed race."</p>

<p>"Shooter encouraged followers to watch grisly images online and posted that the "more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight. </p>
<p>Police in Oregon have identified the gunman who opened fire at a college on Thursday, killing 10 people, as Chris Harper-Mercer.</p>

<p>The 26-year-old, whose social media profiles featured content supporting the IRA, apparently demanded to know his victims' religious beliefs before opening fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. </p>

<p>He left behind a complex web of online identities which offer a possible insight into his personality - or at least a glimpse of the way he wanted to present himself to the world.</p>

<p>He maintained a myspace page, on which he posted a photograph of himself holding what appears to be a rifle, alongside images of masked IRA gunmen.</p>

<h2>Obsession with Nazis</h2>

<p>He offered the fullest description of himself on an online dating profile, saying he was "shy at first, but warm up quickly, better in small groups". He also said he was not religious but was "spiritual" and described his political views as conservative.</p>

<p>His username on the dating site Spiritual Passions was ironcross45 - a handle often used by far-Right sympathisers in reference to the German military symbol reintroduced by the Nazis.</p>

<p>He was also linked, via the username Lithium_Love, to a video upload site, where he also posted about <a href=" link to www.telegraph.co.uk Flanagan</a>, the former TV reporter who shot dead two former colleagues live on air. </p>

<p>"On an interesting note, I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are," he wrote.</p>

<p>"A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight."</p>

<p>He encouraged his followers to watch the video made by Flanagan and posted on social media.</p>

<p><i>"It's a short video but good nonetheless,"</i> he wrote. </p>

<p><h3>Mixed race white supremacists do exist.</h3></p>

<p>There is a neo-Nazi who is similar to Chris Harper Mercer. He has almost identical interests and history as Mercer, which is pretty impressive considering how screwed up Mercer is. He went to a school for emotionally disturbed children, is mixed race, a Conservative, has an interest in the army and guns, is part black but supports white supremacy and has it in for not only minorities but Christians, too. </p>

<p>Here's the article about him: </p>

<p>As for Mercer, if he's like that Nazi asshole I described, he's probably acting out family problems through race hate. Mercer's parents <a href=" link to www.nytimes.com through a divorce,</a> so this is a possibility.</p>
