"Boiler Room" Review

The following is my written and detailed experience of what it means for one to enjoy themselves.....at a REALLY happening spot......BOILER ROOM!
""I've seen countless regulars come and go. I've seen proposals, breakups, great dates, failed dates, hookups, hookers, rockstars, and crooners. I love every night at the Boiler Room"

Rob Campbell, a.k.a "Dr. Love."

Karaoke. "Freedom of Expression". When one, he or she sings, dances, and performs to a particular song. Dancing, and singing with a feeling of euphoria, (tipsy/intoxicated or not.) Some people can actually memorize, not just with their minds, but hearing it with your hearts, and feeling, moving your feet to each kind of beat.

Since my 37th Birthday on February 22nd, 2015, the following and absolute BEST has been brought out of me: Restored spirituality, self-esteem, humility, and dignity deep within self. The FIRST song I performed to was "Dancing Queen" (By the old school singing 70s group "Abba") at the "Boiler Room".

"It's nice to watch people enjoy themselves, singing songs they love."
Ryan Jacobs, bartender for the B.R.

The Boiler Room is a VERY popular karaoke bar, based here in the Old Town Chinatown. Its convenient for me since its right across the street from Street Roots, and right across the street from me, as well.

I'm known as "Mad Man Marlon" to the patrons and performers who attend this
bar.

My full name is Marlon Crump. I'm a very well respected community, public figure here in Portland, Oregon, known for my work with Street Roots, and the communities here. By day, I'm out "Repping the Roots" in terms of informing the public of what the latest news edition is, what the organization is ALL about to the community, my fellow vendors, and to me, in general.(Not just because I was voted as the "Street Roots 2014 Vendor of the Year")

...............while at night:

You're the Dancing Queen (Abba)To be the Rhythm of the Night(El DeBarge) You Belong to the City (Glenn Frey) When you call my name, it's like a little prayer......(Madonna)

Walking inside the bar, pictures of legendary vocal artists, including Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur, just to name a few.

Alert of having owl eyes from the B.R. staff is often difficult, in terms of multitasking, as a bartender, bouncers and security checking identification, and the D.J.s handling written requests from potential karaoke performers.

Fridays and Saturdays are usually packed. Alert of having owl eyes from the B.R. staff is often difficult, in terms of multitasking, as a bartender, bouncers and security checking identification, and the D.J.s handling written requests from potential karaoke performers

Katie O, B.R. bouncer, and frequent karaoke performer (I often perform and in some ways protect her from harm)when asked what it means to multi-task, she summed it up in one simple word: "SWEATY!"

Unfortunately, drama has a way of snaking it's way into not only a garden, but to the very floor of potential performers. I've recently experienced such problems, myself. Some most recently, including a young latino man (among others) appearing on my birthday, only to reveal themselves as offenders, woman beaters, and even more frightening, the POSSIBILITY of human trafficking.

On Saturday, April 11th, in a major sting operation, these perpetrators (assisted by this Mad Man Marlon) rounded up numerous perpetrators of these crimes. Some were apparently from other countries......as far as I have been informed.

Despite even this, drama is IMMEDIATELY de-esculated through good music, drinking, dancing, performing, laughter, joy, karaoke, and for me, (on a more personal level having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Survivor: (PTSD)

The most powerful energy that I get every time I'm here, is hoping to inspire EVERYONE...... The feeling of empowerment to self-improve any, (if any) shyness, discouragement, stage fright towards themselves.

"Like surfing a wave of symphony dreams."

D.J. Dirk
