YOUTH MANIFESTO: Chief Joseph/Ockely Green Students' Youth Demands to their Community

At the "Empowering Our Youth: An evening with Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin's mother)" event at Maranatha Church on Monday, April 23, Chief Joseph/Ockley Green students from the Mock Trial Class presented their manifesto, a list of youth demands to their community leaders, teachers and principals and families.
Youth Demands from the Chief Joseph/Ockley Green Mock Trial class students, presented at the April 13 "Empowering our Youth: An Evening with Sybrina Fulton" at Maranatha Church:

Community Leaders:
We want to see people of different races walking together at rallies for justice because it needs to happen now. Some of us are scared to walk around because of fear of being profiled.

Teachers and Principals:
Know that no one is too young to experience racism. Some adults say they are listening, but they're not. Actually listen to the kids and be a part of fixing the racism in our schools. Do something to change it from your classroom.

Parents -- both Moms and Dads:
Teach your children how to love who they are, how to love their culture and how to love their heritage.

Black and Brown Lives Matter! All Lives Matter!

WIN through revolutionary nonviolence

"Community Leaders: We want to see people of different races walking together at rallies for justice because it needs to happen now. Some of us are scared to walk around because of fear of being profiled."

This month's issue of War Resisters League's WIN (through revolutionary nonviolence) magazine focuses on militarization of the police and police violence. The cover read, "This means war....Militarization of the Police." The cover photo is of the Portland Police, in full riot gear, at a peaceful protest. The photo is credited to Portland activist and photographer, the late Igal Koshevoy.

There is also an interview with Portland activist and author, Kristian Williams. The article, "Kristian Williams on the Militarization of the Police," appears on pages 6 and 7.

The magazine can be read on-line at
