"American Sniper" - Don't Fall for the Hype

American Sniper and the uproar it has ignited seem to be yet another (and, apparently, hugely successful) effort to instigate maximum polarization of the population and demonization of 'the other.' IOW, it serves as an ideal tool to divide and conquer 'We the People,' regardless of the outright fabrications in the book and especially the film.
American Sniper... Truthfully, I hadn't paid much attention to this film until I saw a relative's glowing review post, which surprised me, given the movie's subject matter.

So, I checked out the background of both film and Mr. Kyle. Below are other views of both that DO NOT neatly fit into the now well-entrenched, standard "liberals-versus-conservatives" mind-set that most arguing about the film seem to have become ensnared by.

(BTW, did you know Mr. Kyle's how-to-kill-more-efficiently training company--"Craft International" (see www.thecraft.com/Training.html )--has a motto that reads: "Despite what your momma told... violence does solve problems," which artfully encircles a blood-dripping skull logo. Cute, huh?)

Don't fall for the hype. Check out the facts of these three articles for yourself. The third link leads to "Truth, Justice, and the Curious Case of Chris Kyle," a jaw-dropping investigative essay penned by Michael McCaffrey--must-read material (including the insightful comments to that article); it's particularly 'must-read' if you were impressed by American Sniper.

And, if you like, spread the word....

What pisses people off about this movie isn't what you would expect.

in 2000 HBO came out with stephen ambrose's Band of Brothers. It was a hit, and a lasting one. its played on TV every Memorial Day weekend on various channels. One can only assume that Tom Hanks and Spielberg (the producers) were given a ton of shit at various dinner parties they attended over the years about why it was so pro-war. Being human, Hanks and Spielberg having made millions of dollars, and icon status in hollywood, and everything they wanted, except one thing. Acceptance by those dinner party types. So they produced something called "The Pacific". About WWII in the Pacific by various bands of Marines. They made sure it was not pro-war, it was very anti-war. In fact when one watches the series, you can't help but wonder if America actually won the war. It had a production budget of $150,000,000, and it flopped so bad that HBO never ran it again, it to my knowledge has never been aired on TV again. That was fine with Mr. Hanks and Mr. Spielberg because that $150M bought them admiration at those dinner parties.

Hollywood has had a string of financial disasters when it has come to war films in the last 20+ years, but whats worse for them is they have no idea why, even though middle america knows why. Then along comes Mr. Eastwood, and American Sniper. a $58M budget (1/3 the amount HBO wasted on The Pacific), and American Sniper is a boxoffice busting big fat, big titty'ed hit. Grossing over $360,000,000 so far and its still in theaters. And that is what Pisses Hollywood off, because they can't make a big fat, big titty'ed hit and force feed the middle american audience their politics, but Clint Eastwood can.

American Sniper is breaking box office records. The movie tells the story of the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and the sacrifices his family made as he served four tours in Iraq. But it deeply misrepresents why America went to war in Iraq and how the war actually went down.

Snipers Were Traditionally Scorned 14.Feb.2015 02:13

Regular soldiers who had to fight out in the open had nothing but contempt for the ones who picked off people from behind trees, etc.

Even the ones whose job was simply to kill despised these miscreants. That was before they put the fluoride in the water.

that depends upon the direction of fire...
the enemy hated snipers and when captured, the sniper was better off having killed themselves quickly; they were so hated. They usually didn't make it to a prison camp.
Ask the people of Russia about snipers. They were indeed heroes.
They're well trained specialists in more than just popping targets and this movie makes me want to puke.
