Creative Summers Youth Education Program

Community-Based Educational Camp to Provide Portland Youth with a Positive Experience of Hip-Hop Culture and Outlet to Express Themselves
"Creative Summers", the first annual youth summer camp based on the five elements of hip-hop culture, is a week long educational program, kicking off Monday, July 21 and running through Saturday, July 26, 2014. This Program is brought to you in collaboration with a local 501-C3 non-profit organization, Oregon Universal, to providing a safe, welcoming, supportive, and positive learning environment for Portland youth to be creative, express themselves and develop new skills. This program aims to raise funds and awareness to offer ongoing free gatherings and educational programs at Salmon Street Studios (109 SE Salmon Street, Portland, OR), with the intent to bring community together in the original form of hip-hop culture, in the spirit of positivity, peace, love, unity and having fun.

The first two days of camp will be filled with performances, activities, and games to introduce the art-forms/elements of hip-hop: dance, emceeing, DJ'ing, street art, and the fifth element, knowledge / history. Local artists Mic Crenshaw, Soul Minor, DJ Wicked and more, will visit to perform, teach workshops, and share their experiences as self-motivated independent artists. By the third day, students will pursue the element of their choice for an intensive and fun learning experience for the reminder of the program.

On Saturday, July 26, 2014 the students will showcase their skills, alongside Portland artists, at a community jam session where family, friends, and community members can come together for an evening of unity, entertainment and fun.
