THIS CONFERENCE IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

You are invited to the 2nd Annual Resistance Ecology Conference in Portland, Oregon! The conference is booked at Portland State University for the weekend of June 27-29, 2014. We are now well into planning the weekend in collaboration with Student Animal Liberation Coalition. The second conference will be focused on pragmatic skills and ideas for animal activists looking to get involved in an intersectional movement. We are accepting workshop proposals on a wide range of topics and skill-sets.

The first conference (2013) was a huge success. We saw around 300 attendees, over 35 speakers and panelists, and over 30 workshops and panels. The conference covered a variety of issues and topics on building an intersectional movement for humans and nonhumans, the hurdles we face, and why we need to overcome them.

We are continuing our focus on the state of animal liberation and radical ecology, with a critical eye and an appetite for an intersectional approach. Our working theme for this conference is, "Moving from theory to action: Organizing a mass movement for humans, nonhumans, and their ecologies". We really want to offer insight into your campaigns, your actions, and the activities in your community. Although we always will welcome room for critical analysis, our goal is to create tangible approaches to involvement and organizing. Our movements are beginning to organize national campaigns, mass actions, intersectional coalitions, and important local grassroots momentum. We want to report it, analyze it, and promote it.

So please, feel encouraged to attend, contribute to, promote and participate in the second Resistance Ecology Conference. If you have workshop ideas or suggestions, please let us know. We are open to all possibilities.

This summer, The Bunny Alliance, Resistance Ecology, and the Earth First! Journal present the Fight or Flight Tour, a collaborative nationwide tour with three distinct objectives: 1) to intensify The Bunny Alliance'scampaign against Delta Air Lines and the broader Gateway to Hell campaign to end the transport of animals to labs, 2) to share skills and build connections within the grassroots animal and ecological activist movements, and 3) to promote coalition building and solidarity with a diversity of movements and communities.

To increase the mounting pressure on Delta concerning the airline's intimate relationship with Air France and the transport of animals to labs, the Fight or Flight Tour will hold protests at Delta airports, cargo offices, laboratories, and the houses of board members and executives. We will bring the campaign home to Delta with a large protest at their corporate headquarters, as well as work with local, national and independent media to place Delta's involvement in animal testing in the public eye.

Tour stops will also include activism workshops, tailored to the needs and interests of each community. General workshop topics will include information about the international effort to end the transport of animal to labs, strategic and effective campaigning, protest tactics, and strengthening inner and cross-movement relationships. Through support from the Civil Liberties Defense Center, the workshops will also feature a collection of legal topics including "know your rights" trainings, security culture basics, tips for doing legal research, and legal observer trainings.

In addition to this tour being about the demonstrations and workshops hosted by the touring organizations, this tour was hatched from the desire to empower grassroots activism through meaningful cross-movement solidarity. We want to work with other groups involved in social justice work and provide support in the forms they desire; to build bridges between animal liberation and environmental activists; to start friendships that can grow into powerful alliances; to talk face-to-face with others and embrace what it means to build connections in real life rather than online; and exchange skills and stories of experience among activists.

We invite you to join us. Not to just support the work we are doing, but to work with us in turning grassroots activism into a force powerful enough to protect the earth and its inhabitants.

Two Fundraising Appeals

Resistance Ecology 2nd Issue

Friends and supporters! We are in desperate need of fundraising support. Working on providing a free conference that is entirely open to the public while simultaneously working on co-organizing the Fight or Flight Tour has left us financially dried up. We are all volunteers and several of us work full time and/or are full time students. We are trying to put together a 2nd publication that focuses on the why and the how of coalition building for animal activists. We are getting awesome submissions and are very excited to print them, distribute them at the conference and take them on the road when we go on tour this summer. But we NEED help to pay for the printing costs. These print runs are easily upward of $1000 even for small runs. We thought we would be more financially prepared but the reality is we are not. So we are regretfully asking for your help.

We are trying to provide this as a FREE resource for grassroots activists around the country. That means that this a sink for funding and we are NOT going to attempt to get money back by selling them. Donations are always welcome, but we want to provide this publication for anyone, including those who cannot afford donate. That means that your donations go towards providing a free and accessible grassroots resource and organizing tool. That means that YOU are helping to connect and mobilize the grassroots movement. We know that there are lots of folks out there asking for donations. We don't want to draw attention away from their efforts and try to make ours sound more important. They are all import and they all need money. That's the reality of the grassroots. That's the only way that we can manage to sustain. We're just asking for a little help too. Below is a link to an Indiegogo campaign. It's short notice we know, but anything makes a difference, really. Even if that is spreading the word far and wide.

Tour Summary:
This summer, the Fight or Flight Tour will travel across the nation with three distinct objectives: 1) to intensify The Bunny Alliance's campaign against Delta Air Lines and the broader campaign to end the transport of animals to labs, 2) to share skills and build connections within the grassroots animal and ecological activist movements, and 3) to promote coalition building and solidarity with a diversity of movements and communities.
