The autonomous center KTS in Freiburg, in southern Germany, is celebrating its 20th Birthday from May 28th until June 8th! Founded in 1994 and after many attempts to destroy and evict it by the CDU (conservative) and later Green Party city governments, the KTS continues to thrive and represent an important part of emancipatory activism in northern Europe. Despite being situated in a city with extremely high housing prices and constant class warfare from the real estate giants acting through the city government they elect, the KTS has outlasted numerous city administrations and police chiefs and their repressive campaigns. Highlights were the many Love-and-Hate Parades (this year will be the 7th one) and the Do-It-Yourself international anarchist convention in 2006 which brought together thousands of international guests, dedicated support for the 2009 demonstration against NATO in nearby Strasbourg, as well as the daily operations including many events and concerts, popular kitchens, a free store, workshops, silk screening, an Indymedia node for Southwest Germany ("linksunten" = "abajo y a la izquierda") which ended up supplanting the dysfunctional nationwide de.indymedia.org, and legal and medical support.
Viva la anarquia! No pasaran!
