When: Wednesday, March 19th, 6.30pm
Where: Meet at University of Portland Bell Tower, 5000 N Willamette Blvd
The University of Portland student community has experienced tuition increases every year since 1976. With each increase in tuition, students are forced to take out more loans. With 71% of our students currently taking out student loans (both federal and Sallie Mae) this is an issue that needs to be addressed. This is not an issue that is talked about openly on campus and we are working to change that by demanding that administration makes student debt a priority by freezing tuition. Students feel burdened by this debt and need the support of one another and the community at large to work toward change.
We ask that the community attends this action to demand that the injustice students are facing on campus must be addressed. This is an issue that affects not only students here at our university, but in the community and across the country. Student debt is an increasing source of crisis in our country and the students at the University of Portland are working toward change and ask for the support of the broader community.
