The Eugene Library Front aims to bring free revolutionary literature to the streets of Eugene, with a mobile library cart! We want to renovate an old food cart to hold shelves upon shelves of radical books, magazines and zines that will be openly available to anyone from the community to borrow from.
We are currently fundraising to buy an old food cart trailer - can you help us? Just a few dollars will help us on our way to buying the perfect home for the Eugene Library Front. We have a fundraising page and video here: http://www.gofundme.com/4ryr3k. Volunteers will lovingly adorn the mobile radical library unit with creative flair, and make sure there are free books, free tea and some space to hang out and read. We will pull up alongside city parks, at events, and anywhere else we can find free parking, pull out some seating and put the kettle on. Please share this page and invite your friends so that we can spread the word and help make this happen.
One of the great things about this project is that once it is established, it requires very few ongoing expenses. There's no rent to pay and no utility bills. All that is required is some volunteers keen to geek out with some books for a few hours a week, and a car to move the mobile radical library unit.
Aside from buying an old food cart we are also in need of:
- A secure space in Eugene to store the mobile radical library unit (a garage / shed).
- People who can volunteer in the library, and have cars that can tow the library.
- Rad book donations.
- Any downtown businesses that might want to make space in their carpark available to us.
- Materials such as wall mountable shelves, colorful paints, solar / battery powered water kettle (this list will be added to!).
If you would like to help out in any of the above ways - or maybe you have a food cart you would like to give to us! - please get in touch. firstname.lastname@example.org. http://eugenelibraryfront.tumblr.com. Search for us on facebook: Eugene Library Front.
