CryptoParty Portland Announcement

Hello my friends, I am Anonymous.
A National Security Agency whistleblower has exposed government monitoring of your records:

"The NSA has built an infrastructure that allows it to intercept almost everything. With this capability, the vast majority of human communications are automatically ingested without targeting. If I wanted to see your emails or your wife's phone, all I have to do is use intercepts. I can get your emails, passwords, phone records, credit cards.

"I don't want to live in a society that does these sort of things ... I do not want to live in a world where everything I do and say is recorded. That is not something I am willing to support or live under.

"Any analyst at any time can target anyone. Any selector. Anywhere."

"I, sitting at my desk, had the authority to wiretap anyone, from you or your accountant to a federal judge to even the president if I had a personal email."
- Edward Snowden, June 6, 2013

The government collects: All Internet Communications (Facebook, Skype, Google, ect), and all of your Phone Records (who you call and for how long). This information is stored in a computer database, where it can be reviewed at any time in the future. Why is this troubling if you have nothing to hide? Because this information can be analyzed by computers to:

1) know how many of your rights can be violated/taken before you fight back,
2) figure all of your strengths and weaknesses as an individual,
3) know your deepest secrets so they can be used against you.

We must rise up and crush this system. If we do not, as Mr. Snowden says, this will inevitably lead to a "turn-key tyranny."

Is this the world we want for ourselves, and the world we want to leave for our children? If we do not rise up against this machine now, it will not be possible in the future: as this system is designed to track dissidents and radicals (before they even know they're dissidents, before they commit a crime), and these people will simply be whisked away to prison for death.

How can you fight this system?

It is important to not underestimate the threat to our lifestyle presented: you must fight back. You must use every piece of yourself and every means to resist, and also defend those who are resisting (even if you disagree with their reasons for resisting), and you must resist this system yourself. If we fail to fight: poverty is guaranteed, resistance will be met with death, and tyranny is inevitable.

First: become anonymous. There are many tools and applications you may download and use for free: "Tor" is a computer program that allows you to browse the internet anonymously. "TrueCrypt" allows you to encrypt any file. "Hushmail" provides Pretty Good Private email, and "OpenPGP" extends secret email. "Linux" gets you laid.

Second: Attend a CryptoParty. Bring a laptop if you have one, if not, bring a USB-thumbdrive and a pad of paper. This party is to talk about Cryptology and Privacy. We will discuss tools, how to install them and use them. No experience necessary, newbies and techheads welcome. Advice exchanged for free.

(A copy of the CryptoParty Handbook v1.1 can be found here:  http://weise7.org/tmp/cryptobook-v1.1.pdf - large file, ~400 pages, 22mbs)

Third: talk to people: talk to your friends and family, share the tools that allow for a person to be anonymous.
