imperialism & war | legacies

Ten years ago today

a war started.
Thousands of innocent people died, became crippled for life, and were displaced. Families were decimated, lands were laid to waste, and millions of American tax dollars were sacrificed into a endless pit of death and destruction. How many thousands of American teenagers were sent there and now bear physical and emotional scars that will never go away?

All this happened because of lies. Intentional lies. And no one's in jail for it. Indeed, it almost seems like nobody really cares. According to a Gallop poll, only 53% in the U.S. think the Iraq war was a "mistake". I saw some military/politician guy get interviewed on one of the news shows yesterday. He was asked if the war was a "blunder."

To me, a "blunder" is when you screw up in a chess game. A "mistake" is when you misspell a word. What happened in Iraq was criminal in the nastiest, bloodiest, most heinous way. The Downing Street memos prove the men who called for this war lied to get it. And they're still not in prison. No, they're all on book tours.

I pray God grant justice to the people of Iraq and some insight and intelligence to the American people so that this nothing like this monstrosity ever happens again. We need trials for these war criminals, folks. I don't see how this country can heal without them.

In other news, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mohawk activist Splitting-the-Sky, who attempted a citizen's arrest of U.S. President George W. Bush in 2009 in Calgary for war crimes and crimes against humanity. He was only 61.

Operation ‘Shock and Awe’— SHOCKING & AWFUL. 19.Mar.2013 17:12

Lasting repercussions from the 'disaster capitalism debacle'.

From the Mike Malloy blog—  http://www.mikemalloy.com/2013/03/ten-years-after/

TEN YEARS AFTER - March 19, 2013
"Here we are, Truthseekers. Another terrible anniversary of the Bush Crime Family's blasting away at Baghdad. An illegal invasion based on phoney evidence that attempted to tie Saddam Hussein to al Qaeda and bin Laden (who hated Saddam almost as much as the US) in an opportunistic effort to destroy Iraq in a way Bush the First was unable to accomplish.
Ten years after this night of "shock and awful," Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rummy, Condi, Ari, Colin and the rest walk free with immunity, despite the tens of thousands they left maimed and murdered in their wake. Much of Iraq is in ruins - as is the US economy and our global image, and we are still mired in an un-winnable war while the body count continues to rise."

... and the endless atrocities, killing, carnage, slaughter, violence, chaos, murder and mayhem that they continue to cause.

Hold War Criminals Accountable for their 'Actions that have Led/Lead to Mass Pain and Death'.
