We are all born and someday we'll all die... to some degree alone. What if our aloneness isn't a tragedy? What if our aloneness is what allows us to speak the truth without being afraid? What if our aloneness is what allows us to adventure - to experience the world as a dynamic presence - as a changeable, interactive thing? Rachel Corrie 2003
I'm not particularly religious and view much of it as philosophy in the modern sense of the word. In that light I have thought that whatever answered Moses' query from the burning bush with its statement of 'I am' wasn't an expression of power or condescension, but a succinct statement of fact and necessity. Our collective statements in the manner such as Rachel's is insightful mimicry, visceral rather than reasoned, creation in personal imperative. That insight has to be decidedly aware of the potential of circumstance's reality, and deserves honor and admiration of the personal courage in overcoming its confrontation. It's the least that we can do to stand in Rachel's memory, validate among us her idea of justice, and keep the hope that the cause will of necessity be lost in peaceful resolution. Even if she is eventually forgotten, I can feel that she'd be satisfied if the injustice with no threat of being repeated is forgotten with her.
