Two weekends at the end of the Social Justice, Real Justice Conference, over two hundred people marched through the streets of Eugene, demanding extractive industries and their financiers be held accountable for their crimes against the earth and its people. We know its going to take sustained, wide spread disruption of the status quo in order to win. So this coming weekend 1 PM on Sunday 3/3 in conjunction with the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC) we are taking to the streets once again.
Below is our message:
To Whom It May Concern,
Extractive industries have proven time and time again that they have no respect for life and will stop at nothing in order to make a profit. We have watched as they have uprooted forests, leveled mountaintops, poisoned drinking water, and left behind toxic sludge and wasteland. The same industries have disregarded indigenous land sovereignty and made toxic the homes and food of people all over the world.
The continued extraction of finite resources is necessarily unsustainable and condemns future generations to a world without clean air, clean water, and a living land base. We refuse to to be complicit in this suicidal way of life and demand a stop to all extractive industry. The 1% must stop funding and supporting the destruction of the living systems which support all life on this earth.
In the name of all the living beings murdered or poisoned at the hands of extractive industry, we will not rest until our demands are met.
Please bring your banners, posters, voices, and fighting spirit. This is an unpermitted march.
