Controlling Reality With Magical Thinking

Magical thinking is another word for "journalism." We must avoid talking about the Boogie Man. We all want the Boogie Man to go away and not hurt us, so we have no choice but to resort to magical thinking. We cannot allow the conspiracy community to be on-line at the moment, since the Boogie Man is on the loose and something might go wrong. We must believe everything the Main-Line Media tells us and not ask any questions, because this is an "emergency."
Everything has to be hushed up, and all the names of the ones cited in the Boogie Man's manifesto have to be redacted. Of course this guarantees that this incident will build up to 9/11 proportions. We will stop protesting and complaining just like we did after the 9/11 emergency, when Osama bin Santa was never actually found. Why would any one think the Boogie Man will ever be found? We can believe everything the Main-Line Media feeds us and keep quiet forever. We can agree with them that he is really a lousy shot, makes strange phone calls to victims, is a "detestable coward," etc. Since these magical incantations will keep him at bay. When all we really can say (probably) is this is a totally screwed-up person with a totally screwed-up situation (if any of it is real). He already has a Facebook following, but you have to be a bit stupid to be "on" Facebook to begin with.

But if we just keep not mentioning him at Indymedia, and just let the Main-Line Media feed us its magical incantations forever, everything will be fine. Right.
