Pioneer Courthouse Square

Come stand with the people of Gaza and against Israel's criminal attacks!!

On November 14, two days after Palestinian factions in Gaza agree to a truce following several days of violence, Israel assassinated the leader of Hamas' military wing, Ahmed Jabari, threatening to escalate the violence once again after a week in which at least six Palestinian civilians are killed and dozens more wounded in Israeli attacks.

Four years after Israel invaded Gaza, killing 1,400 and wounding more than 5,000, ....

Clyde

Did you guys feel outraged at all when Hamas was sending rockets into Israel earlier in the week? I didn't see anyone post on Indymedia about that.

Last Time I Checked 15.Nov.2012 15:07

Den Mark, Vancouver WA

Last time i checked, millions of Palestinians were NOT sending rockets into Israel, & Palestinians who don't condone what a handful are doing cannot leave even if they want to -- canNOT leave -- because Israel won't let them. It's a prison. Any sane person would be angry. Palestinian dignity, intelligence, courage, & restraint are astounding, given the barbarity & duration & provocations of the occupation.

Right turn Clyde 15.Nov.2012 15:21

lll

Well Clyde, yes it is horrible, but when we are talking Palestine, the aggressors are the Israelis. Generally the death toll is 1 Israelis for 10 or more Palestinians.

The Palestinians are living in conditions that are worse than anything that ever happened in South Africa under apartheid.

If I were living there, I might be willing to launch a few rockets.

Israel needs to leave Gaza 15.Nov.2012 16:55

Gina

As long as Israel keeps building settlements in Gaza these problems will exist. There is no evidence that ANY rockets have ever been fired in to Israel. The Palestinian people simply want peace and Israeli's actions are exacerbating the situation.

GAZA softening up Israel 15.Nov.2012 20:46

DUDE

The cost of occupation is real.

World appeal of shooting people in a barrel(Gaza)will not endear Israels image.

Syrian unity may result from Israel attack.

Its a great tragedy and there may only be entrenched death.

Treasure and lives will be traded. But to what end?

Three years since the last invasion. Now back to that.

So the IDF will kill all or a few. But to be back again and again.

Only a very stupid government could lead Israel back to this place twice.

Its Ironic, one of the largest concentration camps will be run by the decedents
of the holocaust.

Divest in the mean while.

ACT: 64 ways to act  http://qumsiyeh.org/whatyoucando/

People are subjected to massive well-funded propaganda trying to sell a
"product" that "Israel is defending itself" by massacring civilians in Gaza
(again) and engaging in extrajudicial executions of resistance fighters.
The truth is hard to hide as are the statistics: Over the last four days,
16 Palestinian civilians were killed including several children (while 3
Israelis were killed), and over 170 Palestinian civilians were injured
(very few Israelis). Over 140 military excursions by the most
sophisticated US supplied war planes and navy ships on 1.5 million people
in a large open-air prison.

Anyone can find the pictures on the internet of burned Palestinian babies, mutilated children, devastated neighborhoods, and destroyed power plants and infrastructure.

The Gaza strip is one of the most densely populated areas on earth thanks to the Israeli ethnic
cleansing creating the largest post-WWII refugee population on earth.
2/3rd of the 1.6 million people in this arid strip are refugees.

All Israeli human rights violations are done by US funded horrific weapons for
which native Palestinians have no defense. Home-made native projectiles
fair poorly as a response to the massacre by advanced technologies. Yet,
the US administration still sides with apartheid colonial Israel against
the native Palestinians and so are the governments of Britain and France
that are trying to live-up to their colonial activities.

Israeli authorities intensified their attacks tonight after home-made projectiles
fired by resistance forces in Gaza landed in Rishon Le Zion (first colonial
settlement here) and Tel Aviv (first time since the gulf war that sirens
were heard in Israel's de facto capital).

People of all backgrounds are speaking out against these Israeli initiated attacks.

Here in Palestine, we had demonstrations including against the silly bickering that the
factions go through. There are also demonstrations around the world
demanding Israel end its aggression against this impoverished strip of land
full of refugees. But we must do more than demonstrate and hold vigils.

Saturday at 1200 - Pioneer Sq.

SATURDAY November 17th
12pm
Pioneer Courthouse Square (701 SW 6th Ave, Portland OR)

Come stand with the people of Gaza and against Israel's criminal attacks!!

Four years following Israel's invasion of Gaza which killed 1,400 and wounded more than 5,000 civilians, Israel has once again escalated its attack on Gaza, with aircraft, drones and warships bombing over 20 sites, killing and wounding dozens of civilians. Once again the Israeli army is threatening a ground invasion.

On November 14, two days after Palestinian factions in Gaza agreed to a truce following several days of violence, Israel assassinated the leader of Hamas' military wing, Ahmed Jabari, threatening to escalate the violence once again after a week in which at least six Palestinian civilians were killed and dozens more wounded in Israeli attacks. The Israeli offensive has shattered the hopes of many that a truce brokered a day earlier by Egypt might end weeks of exchanges, with Israeli military forces now stationed near the Gaza border

In response to this latest attack, antiwar, social justice, and human rights activists have called for emergency actions to oppose Israel's latest offensive and express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

JOIN PORTLAND as we say Stop the Attacks on Gaza!! and demand Israel end its illegal policies of war and occupation!

Obama's Kill List Policy Compels US Support for Israel 17.Nov.2012 16:04

Glenn Greenwald

US policy always lies at the heart of these episodes, because Israeli aggression is possible only due to the unstinting financial, military and diplomatic support of the US. Needless to say, the Obama administration wasted no time expressing its "full-throttled support" for the Israeli attacks. And one can't help but notice the timing of this attack: launched just days after Obama's re-election victory, demanding an answer to the question of whether Obama was told in advance of these attacks and gave his approval.

Ultimately, though, Obama had no choice but to support these attacks, which were designed, in part, to extra-judicially assassinate Hamas military leader Ahmed al-Jabari as he was driving in his car (the IDF then proudly posted the video of its hit on YouTube). How could Obama possibly have done anything else?

Extra-judicial assassination - accompanied by the wanton killing of whatever civilians happen to be near the target, often including children - is a staple of the Obama presidency. That lawless tactic is one of the US president's favorite instruments for projecting force and killing whomever he decides should have their lives ended: all in total secrecy and with no due process or oversight. There is now a virtually complete convergence between US and Israeli aggression, making US criticism of Israel impossible not only for all the usual domestic political reasons, but also out of pure self-interest: for Obama to condemn Israel's rouge behavior would be to condemn himself.

Nov 21 Update - Cease Fire 21.Nov.2012 15:01

ben waiting (reposting)

(copied from email)

Ceasefire reached but Rally at 5:30pm at Pioneer square will still be held.

As I write this, a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas has just taken effect.

But the Palestinian people will still face the daily violence of living under occupation in a militarized and racist apartheid state. In Gaza, Israel still controls their borders and limits the resources coming in and out. There will still be extra-judicial assassinations, undrinkable water, artificial shortages of food and medical supplies. In the West Bank Palestinians will continue to face the daily violence of a military occupation, an armed expanding settler population, home demolitions and hundreds of humiliating checkpoints. The 1.2 million Palestinians living in Israel continue to live as second and third class citizens and the 5 million Palestinian refugees continue to be denied their basic right to return to their homes.

For these reasons we will go forward with our rally tonight at 5:30pm at Pioneer Square to:

-Mourn those killed during this assault
-Demand that Israel be held accountable for its crimes and that the US immediately ends its military aid to Israel.
-Demand an end to all Israel apartheid policies and violations of international law.

Ways you can help:

1. Join the protest this Wednesday to hold Israel accountable for the Assault on Gaza

2. Send your local media outlet a "letter to the editor" expressing outrage against the provocative and murderous acts of the Israeli government and demanding end to U.S. Military Aid.
