October Mushroom Bark About

October is Bark's annual hike with Mushroom Mark to learn about the role fungus plays in our forests and collect delicious mushrooms! This year we will be visiting the Grove timber sale in the Oak Grove watershed, a tributary of the Clackamas River.
Sunday, October 14th, 9:00 am

You should expect to walk up to three miles off trail on this month's hike. Please bring lunch, water, and sturdy boots. And if you'd like to bring home some edible mushrooms bring a knife and basket. No Paper or Plastic bage please! The weather is very unpredictable this time of year, so please be prepared for various weather conditions.

Also note that this year the policy has changed regarding mushroom permits in Mt Hood. In the past you could gather up to a gallon of mushrooms per vehicle without a permit. This year the Forest Service requires all mushroom gatherers to get a permit from any of the Ranger Stations. As we are going out on a weekend hike, there will not be an opportunity to get a permit on the day of the hike. Please contact the Forest Service for more information: (503) 668 1700.

Carpools meet at the Hollywood Trader Joe's, 4121 NE Halsey in Portland at 9am sharp. It is across the street from the Hollywood Transit Center, near the I-84 exit 2. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful hike. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver.

Call Bark at 503-331-0374 for more details and information.

October Mushroom Madness 18.Sep.2014 13:22

October always brings mushroom madness to the Pacific Northwest, including the Portland area. Best wishes in this year's mushroom hunt and beware of mercury when picking wild mushrooms.
