400 Plus Trees to be cut down in South Central LA to make way for Shuttle

The retired space shuttle Endeavor is to be transported through Inglewood and South Central LA. Over 400 trees will be cut down to make way to the California Science Center.
Can't they dismantle it and fly it in? Is this exhibit more important than hundreds of trees, many of which could be a hundred years old or more. Interesting a poor neighborhood is tarteted as a route, would a wealthier neighborhood stand for it? There is an online petition, will there be protests? Riots? Tree sitters?
