Information [regarding Trudy Ann and her trip]
Early in October of this year, I hope to be going to Islamabad, Pakistan with the Code Pink Peace Delegation. We will join a group of peace activists in Pakistan, and will speak with political figures, the families of victims, and human rights attorneys.
Our mission is to reach out to people of Pakistan, especially the areas hit by drone strikes, to show that we care about their lives. We also want to generate international exposure of the reality of the drone strikes, and show how civilians are being killed and maimed.
It is a great honor to be accepted by the Pakistani Delegation and by Code Pink to join this effort. When I return to the US, I will want to contact you and your organizations to speak about this experience, and continue educating the US public about both current drone warfare, and the government's plans to use drones within the US. Our ultimate goal is to stop the drone strikes and get compensation for the families of civilians killed by the strikes.
The 18th Avenue Peace House and Occupy Portland's S.I.S. group (Sisters in Strength) is sponsoring a party and fundraiser to help me pay for the plane tickets and for expenses once in Pakistan. I hope you can come! There will be snacks, a program on drones and on the trip itself, discussion with some interesting folks, and music by "General Strike" ('fanning the flames of discontent'), Maeve Z, Amenta Abioto, and others! It is a great opportunity to meet supporters of peace and justice in the Portland area.
I hope to see you there!
