Challenge PSU Professor Bruce Gilley with Facts, Jan 20, Noon

Tell the truth Bruce Gilley! The US has a long history of overthrowing democratically-elected governments for the benefit of US corporations.
January 20th, 2012
Noon - 1pm
PSU, Shattuck Hall, Room 212

PSU Professor Bruce Gilley will make a presentation "Promoting Democracy" with the following outrageous description:

"The U.S. has had a history of advancing and supporting democracy around the world. What place does democracy promotion have in U.S. foreign policy today? With a choice of tools ranging from economic aid to military force, what are the appropriate yet effective methods that the U.S. should use to promote democracy?"

Bruce Gilley has published articles in Foreign Affairs and the Wall Street Journal, publications which promote the globalist agenda of the super elite ("the 1%").

His presentation is sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Oregon, an organization which itself promotes a globalist neo-liberal ideology.

Let's do our research and come to Bruce Gilley's presentation armed with the facts!

- The US has helped to overthrow (or attempt to overthrow) democratically-elected governments all over the world for the benefit of US corporations: Iran 1953, Guatemala 1954, DRC 1960, Brazil 1964, Chile 1973, Argentina 1976, Venezuela 2002

- The US invaded Iraq in 2003 to destroy the economy of a state that challenged US hegemony in the region, to acquire access to Iraq's enormous oil reserves, and to load Iraq up with IMF debts.

- For 30 years the United States supplied Egyptian strongman Hosni Mubarak with billions of dollars, which he used to prop up his corrupt and violent police state.

- The United States does not promote local direct democracy (neighborhood democracy having no elected or appointed leaders). Instead, the US promotes national representative democracy, a degenerate form of democracy that has leaders who are corruptible by corporations using legalized bribery (campaign contributions).

Democracy is the pretext. Resource extraction and debt servitude are the goals.
