Jo Ann Hardesty a former State Representative from NE Portland from 1995-2001 and currently on the Portland City Charter Review Commission is hosting an open forum for Occupy Portland to bring Public Financing of Elections back to Portland.
4 pm this Tuesday at the amphitheater at Terry Schrunk Plaza.
A renewal of Public Financing of Elections lost by just a thousand votes last election in Portland. It is also known as Voter Owned Elections and Clean Elections. City Council-member Amanda Fritz who herself hosted an open forum on city government for Occupy Portland earlier this month was elected by this program, and in honor of that she has committed to not accepting donations larger than $50 for her reelection campaign. It is in support of this spirit that Jo Ann would like to start a conversation with Occupy Portland. She hopes that with we can do for Public Financing of Elections what we did for Ranked Choiced Instant Runoff Voting and convince the Charter Review Commission to form a committee that will again be supported by a workgroup we form.
