IndyMedia in the Beginning

IndyMedia was essentially born out of the lead up to the Seattle WTO in 1999. Portland organized through KBOO and other channels and sent thousands to Seattle. What's our next great moment?
Stop the Machine (www.October2011.org) is a civil action happening in DC on October 6th. Over 2,000 people, including many high-profile people, have already pledged to be in DC on that date and have committed to STAYING, until we change the system.

As we all know, we are part of a death and destruction machine, and every day it brinks the whole planet closer to the brink. At some point, we have to say enough is enough. What is your breaking point?

Nobody knew the WTO '99 action would turn out like it did. I was there and I remember the months leading up to it. Our community focused, organized, and committed. On that day, we changed the course of history.

October 6th could be another turning point. Corporatism continues to march on and destroy the environment, communities, and people, in it's endless pursuit of more and more profits. I know we can do it again.

Who is going to DC on October 6th? Can we send a bus? Can we organize through KBOO? Where do the various political parties stand on this? What NGOs can we get support from?

It's time to change the system. October 6th is our next great chance.

I'll try to be there. I agree. I feel the brave spirit of WTO/Seattle/'99 once again.

I hope to see you all there! 26.Aug.2011 11:06

All the money and corruption in politics is what is destroying our country. Thoreau once said, "There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root." Strike the root!
