Local (Portland) activists and concerned community members, on 7.2.11 will demonstrate solidarity with allies in Georgia and discuss why HB 87 and similar efforts around the country make everyone less safe. Speakers will address how the controversial Secure Communities immigration enforcement program hurts public safety locally in Oregon.

WHY:
The State of Georgia recently passed HB 87, an unjust immigration enforcement measure that promotes fear, mistrust, and discrimination. Local activists and concerned community members will demonstrate solidarity with allies in Georgia and discuss why HB 87 and similar efforts around the country make everyone less safe. Speakers will address how the controversial Secure Communities immigration enforcement program hurts public safety locally in Oregon. Secure Communities is a federal initiative that allows Immigration and Customs Enforcement access to anyone who comes into contact with law enforcement, regardless of the charges against them or how the charges are resolved. Despite recent changes to the program, S-Comm remains too broken to be fixed. Faith, labor, and immigration activists will also stand with members of the Northwest Immigrant Youth Alliance in support of their "Coming Out of the Shadows" event, during which immigrant youth will reject the fear and silence they have lived under for so long.

PORQUE:
El Estado de Georgia recientemente paso la SB HB 87 una medida injusta de enforzamiento de la ley de migracion que promueve temor, desconfianza y discriminacion. Activistas locales y miembros de la comunidad preocupados mostraran solidaridad con aliados en Georgia. Y hablaran de la HB 87 y esfuerzos similares en todo el pais que hace inseguro a cada uno de nosotros. Los discursantes hablaran del controversial enforzamiento del programa Comunidades Seguras (Secure communities en Ingles) perjudica la seguridad publica local en Oregon. Comunidades Seguras es una iniciativa federal que le da accesso que agentes de migracion que hace contacto con la policia, independientemente de los cargos contra ellos o como resolver los casos. A pesar de los cambios recientes en el programa, Comunidades Seguras sigue siendo roto para ser arreglado. Comunidades de fe, sindicatos, y activistas pro-imigrantes tambien estan en solidaridad con miembros del Northwest Immigrant Youth Alliance en apoyo al evento "Salir de las sombras" donde jovenes imigrantes dejaran el temor y silencio que vivido por mucho tiempo.
