On saturday may 29th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Tabor Space on SW 55th and Belmont there will be a SOMA therapy workshop. SOMA was created in Brazil and is a group movement based therapy designed with anti-authoritarian principles, Wilhelm Reich anti-psychology, and capoeira angola. We will do some of the basic intro games and exercises!
In a world where taking care of ourselves is an act of resistance we musent forget our mental and emotional health. SOMA was created as a form of therapy that looks to work on the ways in which many of our internal traumas are effected by the social and vis-versa.
I persynally have never experienced any SOMA exercises, but a new friend of mine Diogo grew up in Brazil and went through a full year of SOMA and went on to begin to learn to facilitate SOMA workshops. Diogo will be leading the workshop, I am just the excited persyn looking for any more creative forms of mental health, that is setting it up.
