As you may or may not know, I have been participating in a weekly Peace Vigil out here in Sandy for several years now. The first year or two we numbered in the high teens or even low 20's every week, hitting the high water mark of 29 on two different occasions, but that was then. It's down to 6 or 8 of us out there every week these days, with another half dozen or so that make it when they can.
This coming Groundhog's Day it will be four years that most of us still active with the Sandy Peace Vigil have been doing this. To mark the occasion, we are attempting a "Peace Surge" next Friday in which we are inviting all of our family and friends that might be sympathetic towards our efforts, to join us on the street, for this one time show of support.
We hope to do this on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at our usual time and place, which is from 4 to 5 p.m. at the corner of 362nd and HWY 26. Any number of additional folks (more than our usual 6 or 8) would be great, but what we really would like to do is break our old record of 29 participants there at one time. To do this, we will need all the local support we can get, as well as as many family, friends and/or supporters from outside our local area that we can possibly get to come out and stand with us.
I am hoping that you (yes YOU) will consider coming out to Sandy next Friday and joining me and the other members of the Sandy Peace Vigil on the side of the road, in support of PEACE. If you can't stand out there for the whole hour, please consider coming later so you can be there at the end. If you are physically able, please park in the nearby Freddie's parking lot and walk over. There is some limited parking right on the side of 26, heading Westbound, for those that can't do Freddie's. Some extra "protest signs" will be available, but feel free to bring your own. Just waving or flashing a "Peace Sign" works great too. It's frequently windy, cold and often wet at our vigil this time of year, so dress for worse than you imagine and you should be okay. We might go out for pizza (or Thai) afterwards too.
RSVPs would be most helpful, but are not required. Please feel free to pass this message along to anyone you think might be interested. If you know someone else coming to this event, please consider car pooling. If you don't know anyone else coming to this, please consider bringing someone. (heh-heh)
You might (or might not) be a long-shot for actually doing this, but if you've read this e-mail this far down, thanks for that, at least! I know everyone can't take this kind of time out of their busy schedules for something like this, but it would be great if you could, and DID!!! Your support this one time would mean so much to those of us that stand out there week in and week out, every week of the year. Hopefully enough folks will show up this Friday night to sustain our hope for PEACE for the coming year.
It would be wonderful if you could make it out for this. We could really use your help!
Thanks again for your kind consideration...
