PSU ELECTIONS FORUM SATURDAY OCT. 30TH 12 NOON
PSU CHIT CHAT CAFE, 1907 SW SIXTH
This moderated discussion/debate and open forum is for students, teachers and community members to discuss:
**For Nov. 2, should voters approve Voter-Owned Election and TriMet's $125,000,000 Tax? (The Oregonian Editorial Board says no
**Should voters support Bob Stacey, David Wu, John Kitzhaber against their right-wing foes?
**Boycotts and Ballots: Transit Riders Union has organized the Reedville Cafe Boycott to Elect the TriMet Board. In 1964 and
1965, the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act sought to enshrine social justice in two public spheres. Since the
TriMet board is appointed, not elected, is the cafe boycott one way to secure voting rights? Like women before suffrage
or Jim Crow many years ago, right now it is "illegal" for the 1,400 transit riders who signed anti-austeriy petitions with
Transit Riders Union -- to even be ALLOWED to vote for the TriMet board. Does transit, ecology, global warming, de-car-ing
society, etc., matter? Does public transit lessen dependence on fossil fuels, and 10-year wars for oil access and oil
profits (re the US as 'empire' in Gore Vidal's phrase)?
**Does it matter if Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer (in California) and Patty Murray (in Washington state) defeat their GOP
**Should there be a grassroots movement in the U.S. like France (against Sarkozy) and Greece (against IMF) to fight so-called
**What about Palestine v. Obama's client-state, Israel?
The PSU Election Forum is presented by: Transit Riders Union, PSU Progressive Student Union, Tenant Rights Project and Unemployed Workers Council.
