Human Rights Commission Meeting

August 4 2010 4:00 - 6:30 pm

Mission: The Human Rights Commission works to eliminate discrimination and bigotry, to strengthen inter-group relationships and to foster greater understanding, inclusion and justice for those who live, work, study, worship, travel and play in the City of Portland. In doing so, the Human Rights Commission is guided by the principles embodied in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.



PROPOSED MEETING AGENDA



Desired Outcomes: When the meeting concludes, we will have

Greater understanding of the expectations for member involvement on the HRC
Established a Policy Committee to coordinate the policy work of HRC
An update from HRC members who are representing HRC in City committees and ad hoc work
Discussed and agreed upon a strategy to engage more broadly with community stakeholders
A closer understanding of and connection with each other.

Some of the current topics included in this meeting are of the recent sit lie sidewalk laws and concerns of how the law is affecting people and how Sisters is looking at homelessness in a bigger global vision, in regard to solutions and ways of ending this world wide poverty cycle.
