Jury Reaches Verdict in Mehserle Murder trial.

According to corporate media the jury has reached a verdict in murder trial of BART cop Johannes Mehserle, who was involved in the 2009 New Years killing of Oscar Grant. Verdict is set to be announced at 4:30pm pacific time.

There will be a gathering at Peninsula park tonight at 9pm to stand in solidarity with the people of Oakland, and to address the recent police shootings here in Portland.

Johannes Mehserle was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, 4pm, thursday july 7th, 2010.

California Penal Code 192 (b) PC involuntary manslaughter is a felony. A conviction subjects you to7

* formal probation,

* a two, three, or four-year California State Prison sentence,

* a maximum $10,000 fine, and

* possible professional repercussions (if you hold a professional license).

In addition, California involuntary manslaughter law also addresses civil wrongs. If, for example, you are found liable for unlawfully causing another's death in a civil suit (in a medical malpractice case, for example), you could face substantial additional fines.
