Giant Oil Skimmer

A giant Taiwanese oil skimmer ten stories tall and 3 1/2 football fields wide is being tested in the Gulf.

The blowout of April 20, 2010 aboard the Deepwater Horizon was clearly preventable. The fact that the BP oil spill has been allowed to reach coastal Louisiana is inexcusable. BP's surface spill response and containment efforts would be comical if they were not so devastating. The environmental and economic damages suffered by victims of the BP oil spill will be enormous and on-going. The livelihoods of all persons whose businesses rely on the natural resources of the Gulf Coast are at risk. Commercial fishermen, oyster harvesters, shrimpers, and businesses involved, directly or indirectly, in processing and packaging for the seafood industry will experience the end of a way of life that, in many cases, has been passed down from one generation to the next.

Question… 04.Jul.2010 13:46

bleeding heart ~~~~~<3

It seems like the skimmer is just for show. So they can say "well we tried everything"... "we used the skimmer".
Maybe more skimmers should have been used and much sooner after the oil spill occurred instead of dumping all the toxic poisonous dispersant chemicals onto the oil. Will the skimmer be able to remove all of those chemicals as well? Not likely.

How's this skimmer going to be effective when they are spraying tons of toxic dispersants onto the water so "they" can make the oil sink below the surface and to the bottom of the Ocean? Also, they can deny the amount of oil there is because when it's under the surface no one can see it.

Once the oil sinks it is "Out of sight out of mind". Or so "they" think.

(from the following article) Oil dispersants an environmental 'crapshoot' - Chemicals used on Gulf spill carry unknown risks, scientists say  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37282611/ns/gulf_oil_spill/ "The timing could not be worse for the Bluefin Tuna. The majestic, deepwater giant — threatened by overfishing — had just lost a bid for protection as an endangered species when oil started gushing into its spawning grounds in the Gulf of Mexico. Now, a part of the emergency response to the oil — the large-scale use of dispersants — could further imperil the species by sinking the oil beneath the Gulf's surface and into the zone where its eggs and larvae are floating, marine biologists say."

It's kind of the same with BP and the burning of the Sea Turtles alive so they don't have to account for the numbers slaughtered along with all the multitudes of other wildlife and animals (once they burn up they are "out of sight out of mind"). They have devastated the entire ecosystem; perhaps beyond repair. It seems ironic that the name of the skimmer is the "A Whale" since they are killing Whales and everything else living in the Ocean. As the oil continues to spill out of the Earth it is reminiscent to a whale hemorrhaging and bleeding to death after being harpooned/stabbed; life force spilling into the Sea. They are killing the planet. There will be no accountability or justice because in the end it is all about "profit" $$$. We live in a "profit driven" system/culture/society— at the expense of Mother Earth, and all life... including us. What is done to others (animals included) is done to ourselves. We are all 'one'. Look into their eyes and feel their pain.

*Denial and eliminate evidence*— By letting the turtles burn, they are making it impossible to calculate exactly how many turtles died. 'Profit/greed/corruption' driven actions. They are burning Sea Turtles alive. (heartless and despicable) These turtles are an endangered species and are already close to extinction.

*Question*— Is out of sight out of mind? I don't think so.

This system that is based on oil for energy is completely destructive and must change before it's too late.

Oil + Corexit Dispersant = destroyed ecosystem 08.Jul.2010 12:51

Marine biologist claims US Coast Guard involved in Corexit spraying -

BP demands Corexit be used to destroy the ecosystem:

No matter how carefully Corexit is sprayed, the chemicals will always drift inland, or simply evaporate and return in condensation.

"[Corexit] basically disrupts the natural ability of oil to bond with itself," he said. "Oil bilipid layers next to each other are the very basis of life. Each of us is made out of cells. Those cells are nothing more than an oil layer surrounding our proteins and RNA and all the other molecules talking to each other. You put in a chemical that disrupts that basic biological structure and you are putting yourself at risk from umpteen effects."

The Coast Guard has banned reporters from getting near oil spill sites: a move that's been called an assault on the First Amendment. If indeed the guard is actively assisting BP in violating the EPA's order to significantly reduce Corexit output — and if they've begun taking up night-time spraying missions on the company's behalf, as Dr. Pincetich claims — then their reasons for shutting out the media become much easier to assume.

Dreadful as it sounds, the scenario would seem to lead reasonable observers in wondering why a foreign corporation is directing a branch of America's military.

Salon writer Glenn Greenwald opined similarly in a recent slight to what he called the "BP/Government police state," saying: "The very idea that government officials are acting as agents of BP (of all companies) in what clearly seem to be unconstitutional acts to intimidate and impede the media is infuriating. Obviously, the U.S. Government and BP share the same interest — preventing the public from knowing the magnitude of the spill and the inadequacy of the clean-up efforts — but this creepy police state behavior is intolerable."
