CRIMES OF THE HEART presented by PSU Department of Theater Arts

CRIMES OF THE HEART by PSU Theater Arts running May 28 - June 5 at Winningstad Theater!
Portland State University Department of Theater Arts presents:

By Beth Henley
Directed by Glenn Gauer

"Crimes of the Heart" is Beth Henley's second play, and won her the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1981. Taking place in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, Crimes of the Heart is the story of a group of aging sisters—The Magraths, Lenny, Meg and Babe—who reunite to pick up the pieces after the youngest is accused of attempted murder. In doing so they expose a torrent of buried emotions, and begin to confronting the issues that drove them apart to begin with. Also present is the overbearing cousin figure, Chick, and two complicated men—Doc, Meg's old flame, and Barnette, a young lawyer unusually eager to take up Babe's case.

This is a humorous, family-friendly play in three acts, less about simple resolutions and more about the how important family can be to taking initiative in the face of insurmountable regrets. "Crimes" is a play for all ages but especially those familiar with the pitfalls and triumphs of family and romance.

"Such is Miss Henley's prodigious talent that she can serve us pain as though it were a piece of cake." —NY Times

"Crimes of the Heart" runs at Winningstad Theater (located at 1111 SW Broadway in Portland) from May 28th through June 5th at 7:30 pm, with a Sunday matinee on May 20th at 2:00 pm.
