Rev. Jackson spoke for about 10 minutes and then took about four questions before leaving to attend the rally set to take place in another part of the building. |
He addresses the circumstances of the death of Aaron Campbell, but also speaks generally to the issue that African Americans "may now be free, but they are not equal."
At both the News Conference and later at the rally, Rev. Jackson admonishes the city for allowing Ronald Frashour to return to work tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17th. He says that this officer should not be allowed to return to work so soon.
Rev. Jackson was joined by and Pastor Leroy Haynes of the Albina Ministerial Alliance, in encouraging the Portland Community to show up at the Justice Center at 12:00 noon on Wednesday if Frashour returns to work that morning.
Another rally is planned for this Friday, February 19, 2010, from 3:00 - 6:00. The Community will gather at Pioneer Courthouse Square at 3:00 and march southbound on SW Broadway for the rally on both sides of SW Broadway in front of Smith Hall at PSU.
