VIDEO: J. D. Salinger Dies at Age 91

Holden Caulfield, the protagonist in "The Catcher in the Rye," became a symbol for the angry and rebellious modern teenager and of adolescent angst. Sales of the book, according to the Associated Press, have reached more than 60 million copies worldwide.
Erin2012 : Having just read The Catcher in the Rye in school last year, it is a devastation to me that one of the most thought-inspiring authors I have ever studied has passed away. For one who wrote a book that mirrored the issues of suffering millions to have passed away is a great loss to humanity.

Lisa McDonald : JD Salinger made me love reading, not to mention the English language in a way I never would have without him. He made a huge impact on so many, and although he lived in seclusion for nearly 60 years, I liked knowing he was still on this planet sharing the air with the rest of us. May he rest in peace.
