Open letter to our "Peacemaker" president
Dear Mr. President Wednesday, December 9, 2009
President Obama, you will accept the Nobel Peace Prize in a few days. You will go to Sweden, make a great speech about how humble you are, take the 1.4 million dollars, and come home. We all know, or should know by now, that you do not deserve this prestigious award for your work.
I have a suggestion for you, Mr. President. Take the $ 1,400,000 and give it to a group who has been fighting for peace for generations. There are several you can pick from; The Quakers come to mind, Cindy Sheehan's new group, Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace, or Vietnam Veterans Against War. Mr. President, once again you come to a fork in the road, what will you do? I understand you have said two things that give rise to this suggestion.
First, you have already admitted that you think that others deserve this award much more than you. The second reason is that we who hoped you would be different really need your help in understanding just what the hell your administration is all about.
I am glad to have a person in the White House who can put a sentence together and we the people cheer when you speak. We need smart people in a leadership role at this time in history, but sir, as you have shown us in the last few weeks, a dumb bullet kills just like a smart bomb.
Do the right thing and accept this award for all the people who have suffered for the last nine years. The ones who have gone to jail, who have lost jobs, who have been arrested in front of their children because they were doing what you are talking about but never seem to get done. They are our Heroes, not politicians.
Just a small suggestion from an old vet.
