In front of Federal Building Press Conference: No Recognition of Coup Elections in Honduras! |
When: Monday November 30, 2009 10am
Where: 1220 SW 3rd Ave.
The Honduras Solidarity Committee of the Portland Central America Solidarity Committee joins international action denouncing the fraudulent elections that are taking place in Honduras and are calling for an end to US support for the illegal military coup dictatorship.
We call on all solidarity activists to join us for a press conference tomorrow where we will denounce the fraudulent elections that took place in Honduras today, and call on the Obama Administration NOT to recognize the elections results.
In Honduras, much of the country boycotted the elections, streets and polling stations remained pretty empty. However the Honduran military still found occasion to attack people in the street, using tear gas and armed military personnel imported days earlier from the United States.
Earlier this week, Luis Gradis Espinal, a teacher and coordinator of the Southern Front of Resistance was found murdered.
The heavy military presence and repression by the Honduran military forces, along with a high abstention level elections, not to mention the fact that President Zelaya has still not been reinstated as president are all extremely compelling reasons why the US should not recognize the results of the fraudulent elections in Honduras.
Brazil has already indicated that it will not recognize the results of the election, and urges the Obama Administration to do the same.
