kind of just below 24 hour fitness, near holgate, but on the trail, two deer bounded over the train fence and were heading up the bluff. anyone see where they went?
this time of year...probably a migratory, autumn sojourn that leads the deer through that area, springwater corridor, in october...
my encounter was more dramatic...i was headed south on the corridor on my bicycle, when i heard a trampling, galloping sound behind me, overtaiking me, getting louder by the second...this was late at night, of course, ground fog, moon over head, and i became frightened. i didn't want to turn around so i peddaled faster. but it overtook me. it was a huge buck, galloping down the train tracks, to be with, and guard, his cows, who were in that meadow, just below the bluff where 24 hour fitness now resides...
along that trail and in the meadow adjacent oaks park, i have also seen many owl, mostly barn owl, and their babies perched on the chain link fence between the trail and the path, rabbit, coyote, skunk (getting as numerous as racoon lately), many crane, day and night, beaver, and, of course, the osprey
i saw a doe about last april on the trail right before it curves the deer jumped out in front of my bike stared at me for a second, then lept into the trees toward the river. ive always wondered if they lived there. or got there by accident
