How a Bill Becomes a Law
Support the Campaign to Expand LPFM
After almost five years of fighting to pass the Local Community Radio Act, the bill is finally moving forward in the House!
Your support has brought us to where we are today. We've secured 90 cosponsors in the House, moved the bill through two markups, and resolved the concerns of former skeptics. But now we need to go back to Capital Hill, make one final push in the House and put pressure on the Senate. To do all this, we need resources! The time to act is now, please DONATE to Prometheus today.
The Local Community Radio Act Surges Ahead in Washington
This month, the Local Community Radio Act passed out of both the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce by voice votes. This is the farthest the bill has gotten since it was first introduced in 2005, and we're expecting it to go farther still. The bill is moving swiftly toward a full House vote, which we hope will be scheduled for later this month. READ ON to learn more.

Take Action this Actober
Are you tired of hearing the same Top 40 music? Are you disappointed that you cannot find any local news coverage on your radio dial? Can you imagine media as a tool for social justice organizing instead of an outlet for misinformation and distraction?
Then now is the time to take action! It's easy as 1, 2, 3:
1) Call your Congressional Representative's office and ask to speak to the staff person who covers telecom issues. (To look up your representative and find out whether he or she is a co-sponsor, go to Govtrack.us or Free Press. Or call the Prometheus office and we will help you through it: 215-727-9620.)
2) Tell the telecom staffer, either by phone or on their voice mail:
"I am a constituent of (Congressperson X) and I am calling to urge him/her to support HR 1147, which expands the Low Power FM radio service, creating opportunities for local community media outlets in our district. The Local Community Radio Act is advancing rapidly, it has been unanimously voted out of the Energy and Commerce Committee and will come to a floor vote shortly. Can I count on Representative X's vote in support of HR 1147?"
3) Following the call, send an email to expandlpfm@prometheusradio.org to tell us how your call went.
