Elliott 27 benefit donations STOLEN!!!

It breaks our hearts to announce that at the Elliott 27 benefit at Liberty Hall on Saturday night, all proceeds were stolen. Dirt poor activists, who are about to get the shaft from an over oppressive and corporate owned system, were ripped off while trying to raise funds for the upcoming fines, CLDC legal defense, and the potential reparations that they face.
During the benefit for the Elliott 27 benefit at Liberty Hall on Saturday night, all proceeds were stolen. Dirt poor activists, who are about to get the shaft from an over oppressive and corporate owned system, were ripped off while trying to raise funds for the upcoming fines, CLDC legal defense, and the potential reparations that they face. The co-defendents are mostly unemployed activists who stood up against the logging of the last of Cascadia's old growth forest, corporate greed, and the same oppression that most of us fight every day.

The benefit show, put on at Liberty hall, featured volunteer performances by Evan Greer, Broadcast live, and local radical favorites- Slow Teeth. It was an amazing show; dancing, laughter, and radical theology were enjoyed by all. Local Captured by Porches brew on tap and vegan chili were being sold at a much discounted price in the basement. Spirits were high, and in our generous spirit at the end of the benefit we offered free chili and charged next to nothing for the beer. Crusties, punx, and activists all rushed the kitchen to take their part of the free food, and much appreciation was expressed. After the chaos cleared and the cleanup duties began it was noticed that the metal box containing all the proceeds raised was missing from on top the refrigerator. All our efforts, time, and money sacrificed for the Elliot 27, for nothing.

How are we to create a better world if we can't take care of our local communities?

If anyone saw something suspicious, someone leaving with an army-green metal box, or has any other information please send an e-mail to  cascadia_ef@riseup.net. This can be done anonymously.

What Happened to the Protesters 26.Oct.2009 19:12

Curious

What happened to the protesters? Were they convicted, or do they plan to be convicted? I noticed this post said the money was raised in part to pay fines. If they haven't been convicted, does this mean they're gonna plead guilty? I mean, who raises money to pay fines if you're going to trial. Hope someone knows the answer. Thanks

Money... 27.Oct.2009 20:46

Sucks

People who steal from other poor folks suck more. Even if they are all found not guilty (which is not guaranteed) it is still nice to have money saved up just in case everyone gets hit with a fine. Even $300 each adds up pretty fast when you're talking about 27 people. Also it is nice to be able to support the rad pro-bono lawyers who are helping these people out.

That happened to us once... 31.Oct.2009 12:00

That happened to a fundraiser of ours once, and it turned out after some investigation that the cash was stolen by a police informant. They use their police "carte blanche" to make a little extra money whereever they can, thereby often brining attention totheir spying activities. Sometimes, however, they are told to steal things (money, laptops, HDs, cameras, cell phones, etc.) while on site at a fundraiser/party/meeting by their handlers to sabotage the movement and also gain some intel.

I wouldn't automatically assume that it was stolen in the liberty hall case by a regular visitor hard strapped for cash, beacuse there are plenty of bad guys out there who work for the Feds.

Going to court again 31.Oct.2009 23:54

There will be another court date in December, the 15th I think, and the charge of Interfering with an Agricultural Operation will have to be dropped. It was ruled unconstitutional in the court of appeals thanks to the work of Lauren Regan and the Civil Liberties Defense Center (cldc.org).
