So, they arrested a social worker and a peoples' historian for crimes against the state. Oh, and at least one of them just happens to be an anarchist.. Next step, taking away the legal observers pens and stenos if they publish police misconduct reports.
The state is going to love winning this case. Wooo, hang on to your hats, rebels, this case is a win/win for the state either way. If the state wins, well, they win and they will be happy to have us just a little closer to a total police state. If the state loses, it really isn't going to make a huge impact because no one really knows what the hell kind of law this is that we are being subjected to anyway. I looked in several legal dictionaries before I found any kind of definition of this crime. Well, it really only applies to dissenters, so who cares, right? Don't dissent is the message either way. And, good gravy, don't identify yourself as an anarchist, those people have a hell of a time staying out of jail.
"Federal Rioting" sounds like the nonsensical charge they give to everyone (no, not you, FOX news) at mass actions these days. As far as it being "federal" rioting, I think that just means over state lines. Any rockin' lawyers out there that have a better definition, please feel free to chime in. But, I think they are attempting to enact the CALEA.
DEFINITION: CALEA (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) is a United States federal law that enables the government to intercept wire and electronic communications and call-identifying information under certain circumstances -- in particular, when it is necessary in order to protect national security. CALEA originated in the House of Representatives as bill H.R. 4922 and in the Senate as bill S. 2375. ... CALEA was signed into law by President Clinton on October 25, 1994. There are certain exceptions and prohibitions that limit the extent and applicability of CALEA. These limitations are intended to protect private citizens and communications providers from unreasonable government intrusion. For example, carriers are not responsible for decrypting (or ensuring the government's ability to decrypt) any communication encrypted by a subscriber, unless the carrier provides the encryption method and has the knowledge necessary to decrypt the signals.
Got that, citizens, consider yourselves protected! Another reason to miss Bill Clinton and his dreamy acts of quiet fascism. I am very concerned about the impact of the criminalization of any form of affordable electronic communication. Twitter, cell phones, WiFi, portable editing software, video/audio recording devices ARE next, but maybe only if your politics are not supportive of the status quo and their ruling powers. I bet that Twitter will continue to be a very silly way to social network and probably will help the next Clinton get into office during the next presidential election cycle.
How far we let this one go uncontested is really up to us.

Way the poo back in April, when the G20 leaders last met (they meet more than once a year for most committees), someone tracked their (the G20 leaders) twits and Venn diagrammed them:

I just think that is a little funny. Just a little.
