This year, the sale is returning to a favorite site at 1625 NE Sandy Blvd., in the former car dealership building.
Hours will be 9 am to 6 pm Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm Sunday and 9 am to 3 pm Monday -- 50 percent discount day. Friday is members' night from 6 to 9 pm, and memberships are available at the door.
An estimated more than 100,000 items will be available, including books on all subjects, CDs, DVDs, books on tape and CD, videos, LPs, pamphlets and sheet music. Hardbound and trade paperbound books start at $1.50, children's books start at 50 cents, and pocket paperbacks will be 50 cents. DVDs start at $4 and CDs at $3.
Proceeds benefit all library branches and support campaigns for the four-year levies that provide about half the operating expenses for the system. The Friends is a nonprofit corporation.
No electronic devices such as scanners or cell phones to seek book information will be allowed at the sale Friday. They will be allowed at the tables on other sale days to check individual items, and one box of books at a time will be permitted on the floor. Boxes may be stored at a depot as customers continue looking.
Yearly memberships are $30 for individuals, $45 for families and $20 for seniors aged 65 and up.
The TriMet numbers 12, 19 and 20 bus lines serve the site.
