Honduras Emergency Rally!

Emergency Rally at Pioneer Square, Thursday, 9-24-09 at 6pm
EMERGENCY RALLY- Pioneer Square, Thursday, 9-24-09 at 6pm

Democratically elected president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, was overthrown in a US backed military coup; an implied threat to the social movements of Latin America. In Zelaya's absence a large social movement, based on unions and community groups, has challenged the authority of the coup government by waging national strikes and weekly mass protests. Now President Zelaya has snuck back into Honduras after spending nearly 3 months in exile and is housed at the Brazilian embassy. The coup government is attacking protesters who have gathered around the embassy to protect Zelaya and the illegal government also implemented a military curfew resulting in the arrests of hundreds of protesters. Dangerous quantities of tear gas are being used on the people as well as rubber bullets. Hondurans need your support! Meet at Pioneer Square Thursday 9-24-09 at 6pm for an emergency rally! Please forward this widely!

ALER_T: EMERGENCY SITUATION IN HONDURAS
DEMONSTRATION WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 IN NEW YORK CITY
TAKES ON GREATER URGENCY

ACTIONS IN FRONT OF U.S. GOVERNMENT OFFICES URGED

CALL THE WHITE HOUSE AND STATE DEPARTMENT IMMEDIATELY TO DEMAND AN END TO THE REPRESSION AND THE MICHELETTI FRAUD GOVERNMENT

President Manuel Zelaya, who was deposed on June 28 by a right-wing pro-U.S. coup, has returned home to his beloved country. Reports indicate that he is secure at the Brazilian embassy. His return is a victory for the people of Honduras and is a direct result of their non-stop and daily struggle for over 80 days.

There is however, currently a very dangerous situation in the country that demands the immediate solidarity from the movement in the U.S.

The illegal government of Roberto Micheletti is carrying out a violent wave of repression at this very moment.

Blogs report: "TeleSur is showing images of uniformed National Police members, with billy clubs, shields, helmets and guns, surrounding the zone near the Brazilian Embassy, apparently to close access to the area, blocking anti-coup demonstrators from entering or leaving. The network is also broadcasting live images, from Channel 36, of two helicopters circling over the Embassy."
