In a letter to the court, Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indigena Oaxaqueno (CBDIO) stated:
"You have to take into account the cultural and social factors that contextualize this case. The treatment of an indigenous migrant, where there are more than 12 million persons without documents in the United States, who are here only looking to gain a life. Their migratory state should not be a motive to take her daughter away."
"Please reconsider the decision by the court, permit Cirila Baltazar to be represented by an Chatino interpreter and allow her to be represented by a lawyer. Please return to Crilia, her daughter, Rubi Juana Mendez Baltazar.
