Concerned about justice for indigenous nations?

If you're concerned about justice for indigenous nations and peoples here in the pacific northwest and around the world, then come help plan several awareness raising events.
On Thursday, Sep. 10th at 5:30 PM anyone interested in helping to plan several events around these issues should join us at the PSU library.

First thing we want to plan out is starting a weekly film showing and discussion around topics related to indigenism (the political belief that the needs and wants of indigenous peoples and nations must be seriously considered and taken into account by everyone). These films will include documentaries about land rights struggles and recorded discussions by knowledgeable speakers about working for autonomy and restoring traditional lifestyles, for example.

Also up for discussion will be the possibility of getting together an event in early January with:
- speakers discussing issues related to indigenism, the environment, and social justice in general
- information about the upcoming winter olympics taking place on unceded native land in February
- information about the upcoming Forum on the Crisis of Western Civilization, Decolonization, Good Living among others topics, to be held in Cusco, on March 26 to 28
- discussion about sending delegates from the pacific northwest to the above mentioned event and about a follow up event with report-backs
- time for existing organizations who work on these issues to present themselves to anyone who doesn't know about them yet and make call outs for volunteers, donations, etc.
- time for people to announce new project ideas and to seek support for them
- time for people to make contacts, view literature and tables, etc.
- local music? food?
... and more

Who should come? Anyone who wants to promote justice locally. People need not be indigenous themselves to understand that what's good for indigenous peoples and nations is ultimately good for everyone, and that without justice for first nations there can be no justice at all.

When? Thursday, September 10th, 5:30 pm.
Where? At the PSU library, located at 1875 SW Park Avenue (maps and directions can be found here  http://library.pdx.edu/maps.html )
We will meet in the open waiting area with the comfy chairs on the ground floor and then pick one of the small conference rooms. We will leave directions letting people who came late know which room we chose.

Alec

I just want to apologize for having made this post. Several folks have pointed out and helped me realize that the tone and wording (for example) was in fact offensive and inappropriate. I sent a message to Portland IMC asking them to remove it as it was offending people but was informed that it doesn't meet the criteria of a post that can be removed.
Well in any case I've been lucky enough to receive some good advice on directions that are more appropriate and productive for me to be putting effort towards. For example I, with a group that I'm now working with, plan to help organize several presentations on white privilege and how to dismantle it, moving beyond white guilt, etc.
