What is NEST:

The Northwest Ecological Survey Team (NEST) is surveying the Palomar LNG
Pipeline on the Mt. Hood National Forest. What this means is that NEST is
searching for active Red Tree vole nests, which are the main diet of the
Northwestern Spotted Owl. Each Nest they find will save acres of Old
Growth on Mt. Hood, and will prevent construction of the Palomar Pipeline
through Mt. Hood.

What volunteers should know and need:

Volunteers should plan on spending at least a week or more, unless driving
themselves. Volunteers will learn the general ecological of Mt. Hood, how
to survey and spot Red Tree Vole Nests, and improve basic tree climbing
skills.

Things Volunteers Should Have:
BASIC TREE CLIMBING SKILLS
Personal camping gear, i.e. tent, warm clothes, personal food or snacks
Communal food (food you like to share)
Rain Gear
Sleeping Gear
Headlamp or flashlight
Good Hiking Shoes or Boots
A General love for Forest Ecological and preservation of Mt. Hood

Things that would help Volunteers:
Understanding of Forest Service Maps
A Compass
The Ability to work a Compound Bow (a huge plus)

There will be a truck driving out on Wednesdays with all food donations.
Food donations should be:
Mostly vegan
Grains, oats, and other things that will keep
Fresh Produce welcomed
(We hope for a lot of volunteers and a lot of mouths to feed)
