Call for Solidarity with CACITA bike machine collective in Oaxaca, MX

We write to you one more time to share the dream that we are about to make a reality, and the importance of your participation/contribution at this very moment. Our project, the Autonomous Center for the Intercultural Creation of Appropriate Technologies (C.A.C.I.T.A.), located in San Pablo Etla just outside of Oaxaca City, is an autonomous project based on intercultural and open apprenticeship, which does not depend on any type of government or institutional funding. We are a workspace in constant motion through experimentation and creation of appropriate technologies such as bicycle-machines, dry eco-toilets, bio-construction, and alternative fuels; just to mention a few.
In English, CACITA stands for Autonomous Center for the Intercultural Creation of Appropriate Technologies. A self-sustaining project, CACITA develops and produces tools and machinery?much of which is solar- or bicycle-powered?such as solar ovens, dry compost bathrooms, humanure and worm compost, rain water collection, natural filtration, bike-powered pumping systems, bike-powered electrical generators and more. Located in the suburbs of Oaxaca, CACITA is devoted to teaching sustainable practices, helping community members use their own skills and resources to encourage coexistence without codependence and a respectful relationship with the earth. They are currently trying to raise funds to buy the adjacent lot next to their property. ------- Final Stretch to Obtain Adjacent lot for C.A.C.I.T.A.

To all of our brothers, sisters and friends,

In order to grow in our continued apprenticeship, we need to increase the size of our physical workspace. With all of your help, we have been able to secure an agreement for the purchase of a 25 ft x 60 ft lot next door to C.A.C.I.T.A's current workspace. We plan on building living quarters for youth from our communities and the world, as well as anyone committed and interested in spreading appropriate technologies, sharing them, applying them and reproducing them according to our needs to strengthen our autonomous abilities.

We have raised 67% of the $90,000 pesos ($7,000 USD) necessary for the purchase of the lot. We have yet another $30,000 pesos ($2,300 USD) to raise, and we have been given a final purchase date of August 15, 2009. We will also need to raise an additional $10,000 pesos ($780 USD) for closing costs. So all in all we have $40,000 pesos ($3,100 USD) to raise urgently.

So once again we ask for your contributions to make this dream a reality. We are making an urgent call out to all our brothers, sisters, friends, collectives, organizations, spaces and people in solidarity to help us raise this final amount.

We know that these are difficult times economically, but these are also times of change, of solutions, of other ways of relating to society and nature. We believe that we share these ideas and dreams with you, and therefore we ask you to accompany us on this path of transformation of consciousness and action that we want in the world.

C.A.C.I.T.A. IS ASKING FOR DONATIONS OR SMALL LOANS TO PURCHASE THEIR NEIGHBORING PROPERTY!!! HELP US OUT!!!!

Family, friends, and folks we've met.

We write to you to ask for help for something very important to us. The possibility to grow, develop and strengthen our work, in many ways depends on this opportunity. We ask that you take the time to read our request below to understand better our proposal.

Our project CACITA, and place of work, located in San Pablo de Etla, in the suburbs of Oaxaca City, was offered the opportunity to obtain the neighboring property and expand physically the size of our place of work. The property measures 8 meters by 20 meters, or 160 square meters, almost the same dimensions as the property that we currently own and are occupying now. The owner of the neighboring property came recently to offer us first rights in buying the property, reducing his original offer of 100 thousand pesos, to 80 thousand pesos, approximately 6000 dollars. The owner offered us that we could give him 50 thousand pesos as a down payment, and pay him the remaining 30 thousand over a specified amount of time. Asking around with family members here in Oaxaca, we were able to be approved a loan from a savings bank that would loan us three times the amount we can put down. Our goal is 20 thousand pesos so that we can receive 60 thousand pesos- 50 thousand for the owner of the property, and 10 thousand to put the title of property paperwork in our name.

It very unusual for us to be asking for help in this type of way, but in other respects the owner of the neighboring property will have to look for another buyer for his land, which would mean our losing the opportunity to grow as a work space. We are asking for donations or small loans that could be paid off in the following year. If it is in your abilities to grant us this favor, please contact us to make the support happen.

Our project, the Centro Aut?nomo para la Creaci?n Intercultural de Tecnolog?as Apropiadas- CACITA, (or the Autonomous Centre for the Intercultural Creation of Appropriate Technologies), for those who don't know of us that well, is an self-sustaining project. Meaning, we don't receive any kind of support from governmental, or international cooperation programs. We are a place of work in constant development, experimentation, and production of appropriate technologies, such as bicycle machines, solar ovens, dry compost bathrooms, building and constructing with natural materials, humanure and worm compost production, rain water catchments, natural filtration, and human-power pumping systems, community sustainable agriculture, recycled alternative fuels, and wind and bicycle powered electrical generators; to name a few.

We want to continue being autonomous as a project and as individuals, and so for some time now we've been creating a plan of development that concludes in a learning center for people wanting to share and learn about appropriate technologies. We feel the purchase of the neighboring property will permit us the opportunity to grow in space, and make real our dream of creating a dormitory for visiting collaborators that come from varied place and realities, to share their knowledge in an intercultural learning environment.

We know times are difficult, economically speaking; but they are also times of change, of solutions, and of other ways of relating with one another and the natural world around us. We feel we share these feeling and dreams with you, and that is why we are asking you to help us grow as a workspace, a place for learning, and as an organization.

Thank you for taking the time to read our words.

Attentively, C.A.C.I.T.A.
