The Canadian Coast Guard leads the way, breaking thru the ice to where the baby seals are soon to be Slaughtered by Canadian Fisherman for their fur skin only, the rest of the dead or dying baby seals bodies are just left there after they are skinned. The Canadian government has been subsidizing the hunt, this is the 14th year. Let's stop the 14th, and make it so there isn't even a thought of the 15th year for this hunt.

Stop the Canadian Seal Slaughter
See below for actions you can take today!
Each year hundreds of thousands of baby seals are brutally beat on the head and slaughtered, most often while still alive, on the eastern shores of Canada. It is not enough that populations of seals are suffering due to global warming and the lack of ice formations for them to give birth upon; mother seals also have to contend with sealers arriving to beat their pups to death.
In Defense of Animals has been reporting on the status of the seal hunt for years and together we have kept the pressure on key officials to stop this blood bath. The United States has banned the sale of seal products. We cannot stop there. There is building momentum to stop the seal hunt forever as two options are being considered to end the seal hunt.
In Canada Senator Mac Harb just introduced a bill that would end the commercial seal slaughter in Canada for good. We need to TAKE ACTION to support this landmark bill.
The other source of great news and possibility is that the European Parliament will vote on April 1, 2009 to ban products derived from seals from being imported into the European Union (EU), exported from it, or even being transported through EU territory. That would have a tremendous impact on the incentive for sealers to kill seals.
We help us flood the US Ambassador to Canada and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harperwith letters in support of the Harb Bill. We also need to flood the EU Parliament with comments in support of an EU -wide ban on seal products.
1. Please contact the Honourable Michael Wilson, Canadian Ambassador to the United States. In addition to your polite sentiments about how the seal hunt makes you feel about Canada, please urge him to support the Harb Bill.

2. Please contact the EU Parliament and urge them to ban seal products from EU territory.
In the the link below, under the "Brief Request" section, ask them to "Please ban seal products from EU territory."
In the "Your Request" section, urge them to "Please ban products derived from seals from being imported into the EU, exported from it, or even transported through EU territory in Brussels on 1 April 2009."
3. Please contact Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and urge him to back the Harb Bill. You can send your comments by e-mail, snail mail, or fax:
