Quoting Slow Food International (SLI), "Saudi Binladin Group is planning an investment in Indonesia to grow basmati rice; tens of thousands of hectares in Pakistan have been sold to Abu Dhabi investors; Laos has signed away around 15 percent of its viable farmland; Libya has secured 250,000 hectares of Ukrainian farmland, and Egypt is believed to want similar access."
SLI states that,"... a consultant at Bidwells Agribusiness, a Cambridge firm [is] helping to arrange some of the big international land deals." Bidwells Agribusiness website: http://www.bidwells.co.uk

MADAGASCAR, LARGEST LAND GRAB EVER
The largest land agreement in history was made by the Korean "Daewoo Logistics Corporation", they signed a 99-year lease with the Madagascar government for the use of over half of the cultivatable land in Madagascar!!! Some 3.2 million acres, Madagascar is slightly larger than France. Slow Food goes on to explain that, "Daewoo aims to grow five million tons of corn a year by 2023, relying on a largely South African workforce and sending most of the production home to South Korea, which wants to lessen dependence on imports."
Apparently Daewoo Logistics [ website http://www.dwlogistics.co.kr/ ] aspires to become the world's greatest commodity trader AND is committed to sustainable growth and development.
