aWEARness call to Action!
Dear Friends and Allies of the Angola 3:
Please participate and organize for the following actions:
Join us on February 19th, 2009 for Albert Woodfox's 40th birthday behind bars (34th in solitary confinement). You are invited to host an Awareness B-Day Party at your house, local bar, restaurant, school, park, or public space. Invite folks who don't know about Albert or the Angola 3. Be Creative. Be Innovative. Be Informative. You can
1. order A3 Action items like stickers, postcards, cups, magnets, etc. ( http://www.zazzle.com/angola3action
2. download flyers and posters http://angola3action.org/diy/
3. share some of Robert King's Freeline candies www.kingsfreelines.com
Ultimately, this will be an opportunity to bring people together, cultivate awareness, raise money and show Albert Woodfox that despite being in solitary confinement at Angola, he is never alone.
So spread your parties out. Have many parties in many cities and expand your coalitions. The more parties, the more power. Additionally, Angola 3 Action is hosting a creative cake contest judged by Herman, Albert & Robert. The maker of the most creative cake will get two T-shirts ("I am Herman Wallace" & "I am Albert Woodfox"), a "Who is Herman Wallace?" screen-printed canvas totebag and a few other organizing goodies. Make a one-of-a-kind cake and post your photos on REACTION. Spread the word, inform your friends, and let them eat cake!
The 36 THURSDAYS solidarity T-shirt action:
Help make the Angola 3 a household name. Starting February 19th, wear an "I am Herman Wallace" / "I am Albert Woodfox" T-shirt every Thursday for 36 consecutive Thursdays in solidarity with Herman & Albert's 36 years spent in solitary confinement. (Sign up for our mailing list and we'll remind you every Wednesday.) The t-shirts are conversation pieces so know your A3 facts, wear your shirts on Thursdays and spread the word.
T-shirts can be ordered from our online store (proceeds go directly to Angola3Action.org), or you can make one using this graphic.
