Release Muntadar al-Zaidi
Shoe protest at the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square
Friday 19 December 2009,1.00pm

Iraqi journalist, Muntadar al-Zaidi, is being held in custody and has been
subject to maltreatment, after throwing his shoes at George W Bush. This was a
symbolic protest against the man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis. His chosen missiles were a lot less deadly than the bombs,
shells, bullets and instruments of torture that the US President has launched
against the people of Iraq. Stop the War Coalition will be supporting Media
Workers Against the War when they deliver their letter to the US Embassy this
Friday. We are asking people to bring shoes to be delivered to the Embassy with
the letter in solidarity with the Iraqi people.

MWAW LETTER

Robert Holmes Tuttle
US Ambassador to the Court of St James's
24 Grosvenor Square
London
W1A 2LQ

Dear Sir,

We as journalists believe that our colleague Muntadar al-Zaidi, who protested
at President George W. Bush in Baghdad on Sunday is guilty of nothing but
expressing Iraqis' legitimate and overwhelming opposition to the US-led
occupation of their country.

We call on you to guarantee his safety and effect his immediate release from
custody.
